Claris Announces FileMaker Pro 3.0 Server for Windows NT; New Windows NT Server Version of Award-Winning Database Software to Turbo-charge Workgroup Database Performance
Business Wire, Sept 19, 1996
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 1996--Claris Corporation today announced FileMaker Pro Server 3.0 for Windows NT, a high-performance relational database engine that will accelerate FileMaker Pro 3.0 database operations over Windows NT-supported networks. The company plans to ship the software early next year.
As with the currently shipping FileMaker Pro 3.0 Server for Macintosh, FileMaker Pro 3.0 Server for Windows NT will support both Macintosh and Windows network users within small-to-medium size businesses and corporate workgroups who need faster database access and performance. It will host up to 100 FileMaker Pro 3.0 database files (up to 2 GB per file) and 100 FileMaker Pro network users simultaneously. FileMaker Pro Server 3.0 for Windows NT will allow network administrators to accomplish a greater number of tasks, including the automation of file backups and sending customized messages to connected users.
FileMaker Pro Server 3.0 for Windows NT will share files simultaneously over IPX/SPX and TCP/IP networks allowing FileMaker Pro network users to select the protocol of their choice.
Next Step in Improved Database Performance
"Today, thousands of users already share FileMaker Pro files seamlessly over a network," said Jon Perr, vice president, product management, Claris Corporation. "FileMaker Pro 3.0 Server for Windows NT is the next step in providing increased performance and scalability of FileMaker Pro networked solutions. It will also give users their choice of either a Windows NT or Mac based server version of FileMaker Pro to accelerate database performance over the network."
"FileMaker Pro 3.0, which is now available for users of Windows 95, Windows NT and even Windows 3.1 has become the clear choice of those who want to create and maintain their own databases," Perr added.
Designed to fully leverage multiple preemptive threading and asynchronous file I/O provided by Windows NT technology, FileMaker Pro Server 3.0 for Windows NT will allow faster access to data when simultaneously shared by multiple users over the network.
FileMaker Pro 3.0 Server installation on a Windows NT network will be as simple as installing any other software application. Installation and administration will not require any special programming expertise.
FileMaker Pro 3.0 Server for Windows NT will require Windows NT Workstation or NT Server and Client Access Licenses, version 3.51 or later, running on a 486DX/50 or faster Intel-compatible PC with at least 20 Mb of RAM.
