Dialogic leads industry in announcing support for Compact PCI standard
Business Wire, Sept 23, 1996
PARSIPPANY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 1996--
Dialogic's Compact PCI Products Will Enable High-Performance, Cost-Effective Telephony Platforms That Offer Low Maintenance Cost and High Reliability
Dialogic Corp. (NASDAQ: DLGC), the world's leading manufacturer of high performance, standards-based computer telephony (CT) components, today announced support for the Compact Peripheral Component Interconnect (Compact PCI) bus standard.
Compact PCI is a new specification developed and maintained by the PCI Industrial Computers Manufacturer's Group (PICMG) that combines the high bus speeds of Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) with the benefits of the Eurocard form factor, such as front inserted card access and fixed input/output cabling out of the rear backplane.
Dialogic is the first CT components supplier to announce a complete line of Compact PCI-based products which include: voice processing, fax, speech recognition, network interface, switching and others. Customers will be able to build cost-effective, high performance Compact PCI telephony solutions that are easily maintained and extremely reliable. In addition, these Compact PCI products are ideally suited for stringent and space-constrained environments. The first product, a Quad Digital Network Interface supporting four T1, E1 or ISDN PRI trunks in a single slot, will be available in mid-1997.
"Since the Compact PCI platform supports the same popular operating systems software and application programming interfaces (APIs) as Dialogic's other platforms -- PCI, ISA and VME -- voice processing applications can move between platforms with minimal or no changes," said Howard Bubb, president and CEO of Dialogic Corp.
As a further benefit to customers, Dialogic and FORCE COMPUTERS have formed an alliance to provide complete solution sets based on each other's technology. FORCE's new product, the Pentura VME5-8700, is a hybrid chassis that will provide a platform for Dialogic's Compact PCI and VME based products. Additional members of the Pentura systems family will be introduced throughout 1997.
"With this partnership, customers who want to migrate to the Compact PCI platform can be assured they will have seamlessly integrated solution sets with Dialogic's products and FORCE's Pentura system," said Juergen Jaekel, president and chief operating officer of FORCE COMPUTERS.
To enable open multivender Compact PCI telephony systems integration, Dialogic will adopt the American National Standard (ANSI/VITA 6-1994) Signal Computing Signal Architecture (SCSA) bus from VME to Compact PCI. This provides a robust 2048 timeslot passive backplane switch that Compact PCI CT cards will simply plug into for exchange of telephony data streams. In contrast, otherwise equivalent PCI and ISA CT components require an SCSA mezzanine-bus ribbon cable that complicates maintenance and modification. Other vendors are expected to introduce interoperable SCSA bus Compact PCI products derived from their current ISA and VME offerings.
Dialogic's Compact PCI product line will complement its other product lines based on PCI, ISA and VME. Dialogic will continue to introduce products supporting specific technologies on Compact PCI throughout 1997.
