Business Wire, Sept 23, 1996
BOTHELL, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 1996--Traveling(R) Software Inc. today announced a customized version of its WebEx(TM) offline browser, tailored specifically for users of Ziff-Davis' ZD Net Web site, a leading source of online computing information.
ZD Net users can download the new WebEx: ZD Net Edition for free via the ZD Net home page at http://www.zdnet.com/zdi/nolink/webexdl.html. WebEx: ZD Net Edition enables users to designate the specific ZD Net content areas and topics they're interested in following, and develop a schedule for receiving the information offline.
Working together, ZD Net and Traveling Software customized Traveling Software's WebEx to allow Windows(R) 95 users to quickly and easily download the topics, articles and information they want from the ZD Net site, including 12 popular Ziff-Davis magazines: PC Week, PC Magazine, PC Computing, Yahoo! Internet Life, Computer Shopper, Windows Sources, Family PC, Computer Life, Computer Gaming World, Inter@ctive Week, MacUser and MacWEEK.
WebEx: ZD Net Edition gives users an innovative and comprehensive "table of contents" for each magazine, making it easy to select only the information they want to take with them and read such as the "News Highlights" section from PC Week or the "Reviews" section from PC Magazine. WebEx: ZD Net Edition also includes a convenient setup wizard which simplifies the delivery process and helps business professionals choose when to deliver the online magazine information to their hard drive and how often to refresh it.
"We're excited to offer our users the latest offline technologies, making it easy for them to access our content, however they prefer to receive it," said Jim Savage, vice president and general manager, ZD Net. "WebEx is a strong, state of the art offline tool, and we encourage ZD Net users to download it and see how easy it is to receive the information they want, when and where they want it."
This is the second business relationship Traveling Software announced in as many months and the company will announce several more by the end of the year. Traveling Software also has a free custom version of WebEx at The Wall Street Journal(R) Interactive Edition site (http://wsj.com) which is offered to its 550,000 paid online subscribers and allows users to download only the Interactive Edition.
"WebEx: ZD Net Edition and Traveling Software's relationship with Ziff-Davis is one more step that simplifies a business professional's ability to use the Web for research, competitive analysis and as a strategic business tool," said Mark Eppley, CEO and chairman of Traveling Software. "Ziff-Davis has many of the most widely read computer publications. Now its online readership will be able to access the information they need any time, day or night, and take it with them at will."
Business Relationship Also Benefits Current WebEx Customers
Traveling Software customers who purchased the full retail version of WebEx will also benefit from the company's relationship with ZD Net. WebEx's "Constant Upgrade(TM)" feature will automatically download the "table of contents" for the 12 Ziff-Davis online magazines to the "Recommended Sites" section within a customer's installed version of WebEx. From there, a customer may choose to add or modify their "Personal Storage" page to include the ZD Net online publications. The "Constant Upgrade" feature is designed to work in the background and be non-intrusive to the user, allowing Traveling Software to make certain that WebEx customers can take advantage of new partnerships with the Web's leading content providers.

Users of WebEx: ZD Net Edition who want the ability to download additional Web sites can purchase the full version of WebEx by accessing Traveling Software's home page through hot links located on the ZD Net site or directly from Traveling Software.
