HP Introduces New HP OmniGo Handheld Organizer; New Addition to Organizer Line Gives Consumers More Choices with Brighter Display and Built-in Pocket Quicken

Business Wire, Sept 3, 1996

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 3, 1996--Expanding its award-winning HP OmniGo Organizer Plus line of personal handheld organizers, Hewlett-Packard Company today introduced the HP OmniGo 120 Organizer Plus in North America (United States and Canada) only. The new HP OmniGo 120 organizer combines the best personal organization tools to manage people's daily lives with new holographic technology that illuminates the screen for a brighter display. It features Pocket Quicken personal-finance software and is expected to carry a suggested retail price of U.S. $399.

Since its debut in October 1995, the HP OmniGo Organizer Plus has received recognition from leading publications and tradeshows, including PC World's World Class Award, Windows Magazine's Top 100 Hardware Award, Mobile Insights' Mobility Award and COMDEX Asia's Product of Show.

Designed to be the ideal organizer for personal and work life, the HP OmniGo 120 Organizer Plus offers innovative features that are new to HP's popular line of personal organizers. The new, brighter display optimizes available light to increase readability and create the impression of a backlit screen without compromising long battery life. The HP OmniGo 120 Organizer Plus, which is based on the GEOS(R) operating system developed by Geoworks, includes Intuit's popular Pocket Quicken software, which allows users to easily manage personal and business finances wherever and whenever they spend money. The HP OmniGo 120 Organizer Plus combines popular HP OmniGo handheld organizer features, such as pen and keyboard entry, "electronic ink" for creating digital pictures, and a rotatable screen and note "jotter," which make it the most flexible device on the market for personal organization.

"The HP OmniGo 120 Organizer Plus gives customers everything they need in a personal organizer," said Kheng Joo Khaw, general manager of HP's Asia Pacific PC Division (APCD). "In particular, the brighter display gives busy people the ability to read information at a glance, quickly and easily."

The HP OmniGo Organizer Plus line adapts to any work style or lifestyle, providing options that allow users to control the way they input and store information. Both the HP OmniGo 100 and 120 organizers are small enough to fit in a coat pocket and provide three input options: Graffiti, an easy-to-learn writing system to enter data using the pen and keyboard and electronic ink to allow for a choice of entry modes. The 360-degree rotatable screen folds over to provide users with a comfortable notepad for jotting down notes and drawing in the "jotter" application.

Like the HP OmniGo 100 organizer, the HP OmniGo 120 Organizer Plus provides easy, anytime management of and access to important information with address, telephone and appointment books. Other HP OmniGo Organizer Plus features include database and spreadsheet capabilities, HP financial-analysis tools, the world-time feature and an HP 12C calculator.

HP also offers customers a host of accessories for the HP OmniGo 120 organizer that extend its productivity, entertainment value and ability to link to a PC. The HP OmniGo Connectivity Pack provides automated file management, backup and synchronization between the OmniGo organizer and a PC desktop. The Connectivity Pack, when used with built-in Clip&Go, developed by Geoworks, links the organizer clipboard to a Microsoft(R) Windows-PC clipboard through a serial-port connection. Clip&Go makes it easy for the user to cut and paste information between word processing, spreadsheet or paint programs on a desktop PC. HP also offers HP OmniGo Strategy Games from Geoworks, featuring six challenging puzzle and card games.

This product is not planned for distribution outside North America.
