Interferon Sciences announces senior staff appointments

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.--(HealthWire)--Sept.30, 1996--Interferon Sciences Inc. (ISI) (NASDAQ-IFSC) announced today it has appointed Magnus Precht as Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, and Dr. James R. Knill as Vice President of Medical Affairs.

Precht joins ISI from Pharmacia, where he held the position of Vice President & General Manager of its U.S. Peptide Hormones Division since 1990. In this position, he was responsible for the U.S. introduction of Pharmacia's worldwide best selling product, Genotropin. Starting at Pharmacia in 1983 as International Product Manager, Precht progressed to build up the ophthalmic division as a regional director in Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, Turkey, Greece and Portugal, then became responsible for the Therapeutics Division in Austria.

In 1989, he became subsidiary president of Kabi Austria, a position he held until Kabi Austria merged with Pharmacia Austria in 1990. Prior to working at Pharmacia, he was the Scandinavian Product Manager for Abbott Laboratories, and he received a degree in business administration and international marketing from the University of Uppsala, Sweden.

Precht's expertise in the arena of international as well as domestic sales and marketing will be a significant asset to ISI in developing worldwide marketing strategies for ALFERON(R) N injection.

James R. Knill, M.D., brings to ISI more than 30 years of experience in the areas of medical and clinical research and development. Dr. Knill served as a consultant to ISI before joining ISI as Vice President, Medical Affairs. Previously, Dr. Knill

served as Vice President of Medical Affairs for Cytogen Corporation.

Prior to Cytogen, Dr. Knill was Vice President of Medical Affairs for Bristol-Myers Squibb for over twenty years, where he was responsible for the management of their worldwide new drug clinical research programs. Dr. Knill holds an M.D. and an M.Sc. of Physiology from the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada and an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Knill's broad experience in the management of pharmaceutical clinical research and development will help to ensure the timely accomplishment of ISI's major clinical programs. In this new capacity, Dr. Knill will be coordinating ISI's two phase 3 clinical trials which are both utilizing its injectable formulation of Interferon Alfa-n3, the company's highly purified, multispecies, natural-source alpha interferon. These trials are designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this formulation in the treatment of patients infected with HIV or hepatitis C virus. The HIV trial is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, and the hepatitis C trial is a multicenter, randomized, controlled study.

Interferon Sciences Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company engaged in the study, manufacture and sale of pharmaceutical products based on its highly purified, multispecies natural-source alpha interferon.
