Studio Archetype Creates Brand Identity and Online Sites for PlanetOut

Business Wire, Sept 4, 1996

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 4, 1996--PlanetOut, the online source for information, education, entertainment, and communities of interest for the gay and lesbian community, chose Studio Archetype, formerly Clement Mok designs, to create its brand identity and architect and create its online sites on the Web, America Online, and MSN (Microsoft Network).

"I wanted to create a very human place for the gay and lesbian community to gather online," said Tom Rielly, president and creator of PlanetOut. "Many people in this community often feel like outsiders. It was important to me to work with an agency that could create the kind of lively, inclusive and comfortable image and online experience that I wanted to achieve."

A distinctive design element to the site was added by photographer Doug Menuez, who found real people to be photographed and act as models for the site. "Using great photography allowed us to create a distinctive and very human face for PlanetOut," said Sam Fuetsch, design director at Studio Archetype.

PlanetOut launched today at www.planetout.com, and keyword: PlanetOut on America Online and MSN.
