"Our digital signal processing technology is a major advantage for Courier customers, enabling them to preserve their investment through simple Flash ROM software upgrades," said Jennifer Schuster, product marketing manager for client products, U.S. Robotics Network Systems Division. "The latest features increase the Courier's capabilities in the corporate environment, giving users more high-end features for telecommuting, Internet access, mobile computing and high-speed file/image transfer applications."
The following features are now available: Caller ID (CID), Carrier Loss Redial
Caller ID provides information about the calling party, including date, time, originating number and directory listing name. Carrier Loss Redial enables Courier V.Everything modems to automatically redial the last number called if a connection is lost, especially useful when data transmissions are unattended.
Distinctive Ring, Microsoft Plug 'n Play
Distinctive Ring enables Courier modems to distinguish the type of incoming call. Using four distinct ring tones, telephones, modems, fax and answering machines can share a single access point. This feature is particularly useful for small office home office (SOHO) environments. Microsoft Plug and Play support is part of the Windows(r) 95 operating system; it automatically senses the modem type and configures it appropriately.
Stampede Remote Office Gold Client Software Bundle
Stampede Remote Office Gold Client Software, bundled with Courier V.Everything, offers LAN connections with the same functionality as locally connected LAN users. Remote Office Gold supports PPP connections, dial-on-demand and remote control capabilities.
In addition, the Courier incorporates U.S. Robotics' award-winning V.Everything technology with connection speeds up to 33.6 Kbps. Its Universal Connect feature automatically connects at the highest possible rate supported by the device on the other end of the connection. And Courier includes high-end features ideally suited to remote access applications. For example, Remote Configuration allows users to change modem settings over the phone, enabling managers to download new configurations to the remote modem.
Availability
The new features are included in all newly shipping Courier V.Everything products. The list price for the external version is $395, internal version $345, PCMCIA version $375.
