Simware's Salvo Connect opens enterprise information stored in relational databases to new Web applications for the Internet and Intranet; Salvo Connect 3.0 adds support for ODBC-compatible relational databases including Sybase, Oracle, IBM and Informix
Business Wire, Sept 9, 1996
OTTAWA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1996--Building on its strong, proven technology that allows users with Web browsers to view, manipulate and interact with information stored in mission-critical enterprise applications, Simware Inc. (Nasdaq:SIMWF) today announced that its Salvo Connect software will now access information in any ODBC compatible relational database, which is the industry standard way of accessing information in relational databases, including all the most popular database systems from Sybase, Oracle, IBM and Informix.
Simware's Salvo product was the first to allow both transformation of enterprise information for the browser and customization for specific enterprise needs.
With Salvo Connect 3.0, companies will for the first time be able to build Web-enabled Intranet applications that simultaneously combine information from relational databases, mainframe systems and minicomputers and present the combined information as a single, seamless application to any authorized user with a Web browser.
"Because it now provides access to both relational client/server and legacy databases, Salvo connect offers one of the most comprehensive Web-based application development environments for an organization's Intranet," said Christopher Fedorko, Simware's vice president of marketing. "Salvo Connect is the enterprise solution that is today helping businesses realize their Intranet potential to distribute more information to more knowledge workers, create a new wave of interactive, intelligent applications, and drive new business opportunities while protecting current information systems investments."
About Salvo Connect
Introduced earlier this year, Salvo Connect is Simware's server-based application software that lets organizations develop Web-enabled applications that give users new abilities to interact with enterprise applications directly from their Web browsers.
"Simware fits closely to what will ultimately emerge, bringing the client and server together," said Rick Villars, director of network architectures and management at International Data Corp. (IDC) in Framingham, Mass. "It gives users the centralized control and scalability they would like in the host world, and the flexibility of user interfaces they like so much in client/server. They've realized it's easier to manage things on one system than 1000 systems."
Atlas Van Lines Gains New Intranet Solutions with Salvo Connect
Atlas Van Lines has licensed Salvo to support the development and deployment to Atlas agents of Web-based, AtlasLink applications. Atlas has more than 600 agents who will have access to Salvo-based applications via the company's Intranet to support the movement of household goods, including quote generation, order registration and revenue settlement.
"We see Salvo as a key component in our long-term strategy to give Web browsers immediate access to our enterprise environment," said Dick Arneson, vice president of management information services at Atlas Van Lines. "Simware's Information Object technology (Note to Editors: see related Press Release), ODBC-compliance, and AS/400 support will allow Atlas to draw information from a wide array of databases, and help us evolve our applications without restricting our choices."
Compatible with all Web browsers and Web development tools
Because Salvo Connect supports any Web browser that supports the HTML 2.0 standard, it is compatible with nearly every Web browser available, regardless of the user's operating system or computing platform. In addition, Salvo Connect is open, so that application developers can continue to use their best of breed software tools to create the Web pages that appear in Salvo applications.
Strong security protects enterprise information
Salvo Connect provides strong security protection for valuable or sensitive corporate information through its support of the Netscape Server API (NSAPI) which provides security through the Web browser via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to the Web server interface. In addition, because of Salvo Connect's information filtering and customization capabilities, developers can assure that sensitive information never goes beyond their company's firewall when they are developing Web applications for use over the world wide Internet.
Pricing and availability
Salvo Connect 2.0 is currently available and Salvo Connect 3.0 will be available direct from Simware as of October 15, 1996. Pricing begins at $3,950 for a ten concurrent user license.
Salvo Connect will be demonstrated at Networld Interop in Atlanta, September 18-20, 1996. See Simware in booth 6662.
