Transmedia Europe launches marketing promotion with UK division of large U.S. bank; Transmedia card offered to 250,000 credit cardholders in UK
Business Wire, Sept 9, 1996
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1996--Transmedia UK, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Transmedia Europe Inc. (NASDAQ:TMNE), announced today that it has launched a co-branded card promotion with the UK division of a large U.S. bank.
The campaign is being offered to 250,000 of the bank's Visa and MasterCard holders over the next few months. For the first time, TMNE is offering a free-for-life, 20 percent savings card to some of these members.
The company recently launched a co-branded card promotion with the banking division of Barclay's Bank in London, which resulted in a 10 percent increase in the UK card base. Currently, the company has approximately 25,000 cardholders in the UK.
"Early results from the promotions are highly encouraging, and approximately 8,000 new cardholders have been signed up in the last two months. We believe this joint marketing campaign will provide a powerful boost to further card marketing activities in the UK," Edward Guinan, president and chief executive officer of TMNE, said.
Transmedia is the world's largest international restaurant discount charge card, accepted at more than 7,000 restaurants worldwide. The card was first offered in the U.S., in 1985, and is now used by more than 800,000 cardholders. TMNE has the exclusive license to operate the Transmedia business in Europe. Its initial operations commenced in the UK, and a second operation has been launched in Paris.
