Physicians Healthcare offers managed care plan to FIU alumni first Florida university to provide alumni health plan

CORAL GABLES, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1996--Physicians Healthcare Plans Inc. Monday announced the completion of an exclusive contract to offer comprehensive health care coverage to members of the alumni association of Florida International University through the company's managed care network.

More than 65,000 FIU alumni are eligible to participate in the plan through their membership. The majority of those alumni continue to reside in the South Florida community. The contract is believed to be the first time a Florida university has offered a comprehensive health care plan to its alumni. "We're delighted that the FIU alumni association has recognized the quality of our health care provider network in selecting Physicians Healthcare Plans for this pioneering contract," said Michael B. Florida International University is a public university based in Miami, with two campuses in Dade County and an academic center in Homestead. It also operates academic centers at two sites in Broward County.
