Trillium Digital Systems Inc. announces release of ATM Forum compliant signalling protocols for Microsoft Windows NT Version 4.0
Business Wire, April 11, 1997
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 1997--Trillium Digital Systems Inc. announced the release of its source code software product supporting the ATM Forum compliant signalling protocols for the Microsoft Windows NT Version 4.0 Server and Workstation platforms.
This new release updates Trillium's entire platform architecture from version 3.51.
Trillium's latest release of its ATM Forum compliant signalling protocols for Windows NT continues a long-standing commitment to Microsoft's operating system products. Windows NT Version 4.0 has gained significant market share since its release and is fast becoming a world force in both the server and workstation platforms.
Sales of Windows NT servers last month exceeded those of Unix servers, according to market research company International Data Corp. Windows NT workstations also garnered a significant portion of the traditional Unix-based workstation market last year.
Trillium's ATM Forum and (ITU-T) ATM signalling and LAN emulation protocols have been integrated into its existing Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) 3.0 compliant driver for Microsoft Windows NT Version 3.51 and 4.0. These protocols allow Windows NT network software to run over ATM. For example, Trillium's Windows NT protocols allow two workstations to talk in TCP/IP, over ATM using LAN Emulation protocols.
The Media Access Control (MAC) driver software product comprises Trillium's industry-standard ATM protocols: Signalling (Q.93B, Q.SAAL, UME), LAN Emulation Client (LEC) and/or LAN Emulation Services (LES/BUS/LECS). This package provides a "plug-and-play" solution for Network Interface Cards (NIC), allowing developers to run Microsoft Windows NT transport drivers, such as TCP/IP transparently over ATM.
NIC card and ATM chip manufacturers need only supply an ATM Adaptation Layer (AAL) driver to use Trillium's platform for their hardware.
Trillium plans additional releases supporting Miniport Drivers and the Winsock 2 Application Program Interfaces (APIs) for native ATM applications.
Trillium's chief technical officer, Larisa Chistyakov, said: "Trillium was the first vendor to provide ATM source code compatible with the Microsoft Windows NT kernel. This release supporting version 4.0 of Microsoft Windows NT simply reinforces our position as the leading supplier of ATM source code products in the world.
"Trillium will continue to lead the way with cutting-edge communications software products and will announce shortly its involvement in some wireless ATM activities."
The Integrated ATM software for the Microsoft Windows NT Version 4.0 Server and Workstation platform is available immediately.
Trillium deliverables include source software, documentation, a training course and technical support.
