HP incorporates Microsoft Windows NT technologies and expertise across all professional-services consulting practices
Business Wire, April 14, 1997
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 1997-- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced it is incorporating Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R) technologies and expertise into all of its enterprise-consulting and systems-integration practices. The practices -- resources of HP's worldwide Professional Services Organization -- involve helping companies elevate Microsoft Windows NT into enterprise-scale systems environments while retaining the companies' existing information technology (IT) infrastructures.
This announcement confirms the company's commitment to Microsoft Windows NT consulting and education made by Lewis E. Platt, HP chairman, president and chief executive officer, at the joint HP and Microsoft press conference in March.
"There is no doubt that companies need help to manage their co-existing Microsoft Windows NT and UNIX(R) system environments co-exist in a way that meets business needs, controls costs and protects current technology investments," said Jim Sherriff, general manager for HP's Professional Services Organization. "This move puts HP in a unique industry position to address these needs and issues."
"In addition to proven methodologies, HP also brings a level of enterprise-scale expertise to any engagement," said Maria Cannon, operations manager for HP's Enterprise NetServer Operation. "Our customers can rely on us to bring to market Microsoft Windows NT enterprise solutions that meet their business needs and IT objectives."
ENTERPRISE MICROSOFT WINDOWS NT SERVICES
Many industry-watchers believe that no single server platform will dominate enterprise computing in the years to come. HP's Microsoft Windows NT consulting and education services address the reality that many Fortune 2000 companies have multiple operating-system environments and need to manage those environments with a common infrastructure.
"When looking at our future business requirements and our current IT investments, we felt that it was important to extend our Microsoft Windows NT-based operating systems from operating simply as print and file servers to more robust application and Web servers," said Alex Ma, chief system manager, Information Technology Branch of the Hong Kong Police. "Knowing that we did not have sufficient expertise in-house to integrate Microsoft Windows NT into our existing UNIX system environments, we immediately looked for outside help. HP clearly was a major vendor that offered a full range of Microsoft Windows NT and UNIX system consulting and education services, which allowed us to pursue our goals."
HP's Microsoft Windows NT consulting services span a wide range of business and IT issues. These services help companies align IT processes and business objectives as well as manage the global access to information through the use of data management and messaging solutions. By incorporating HP's expertise in enterprise desktop management and network and system management, HP consultants also can architect, design, manage and build Microsoft Windows NT information-technology solutions.
Specific projects, such as those designed to reduce enterprise-computing costs, may incorporate a joint technology-assessment service from HP and Microsoft. Other projects might include a Microsoft Windows NT and HP-UX(1) messaging solution. In the latter instance, HP would use its messaging and platform expertise to design an enterprise-class solution in which the messaging applications would run on multiple platforms.
PARTNERS
HP's Professional Services Organization's strategy is to focus on its core competencies while partnering with other HP divisions and best-in-class service and product vendors to provide a complete solution. For example, when entering an engagement, HP might focus on the enterprise information-technology infrastructure and management area and provide consulting, education, and network-planning and design services while partnering with a world-class systems integrator for business-process re-engineering analysis or on-site implementation.
HP's Professional Services Organization provides open, extended-enterprise technical consulting, education and systems-integration services to help customers around the world meet challenges in today's fast-changing business environment. HP professional consultants apply their own experience, leverage HP's extensive knowledge base in enterprise computing and draw on partner resources to quickly deliver robust, end-to-end enterprise-technology solutions that are open and flexible and that reduce customer risk.
