Sony's FYLA series of CD-ROM/CD-Recordable Jukeboxes puts a virtual CD-Recordable drive on every client's desktop; Addition of Higher Speed CD-ROM and CD-Recordable Drives Enables Faster Delivery of Data and Faster Recording On the Network
Business Wire, April 15, 1997
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1997--Sony Electronics is now shipping its Fyla line of CD-ROM/CD-Recordable Libraries and will showcase them at the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) conference in New York.
The CDL-2000 series jukeboxes, featuring new 8X to 12X speed CD-ROM drives and 4X write/6X read CD-R drives, provide practical CD-R technology to anyone on the network.
"The proliferation of memory-intensive data such as multimedia presentations and graphic images has driven the need for cost-effective, mass storage," said Les Inanchy, product manager for integrated storage products of Sony Electronics' Computer Components and Peripherals Group.

"Large files need to be stored safely, as well as accessed and distributed without sacrificing performance. Sony's CD-ROM/CD-R jukeboxes let users record up to 650MB of data onto a CD-R disc for archival purposes, and for distributing information across the hall or across the country."
Inanchy added that CD-ROM/CD-R jukeboxes are ideal for any environment that needs to share, store or distribute data quickly. A 650MB CD-R disc typically costs less than $10 and can be read by any of the 100 million CD-ROM drives installed worldwide. Users can easily share their large files with co-workers simply by burning them to a disc and dropping them into the jukebox's filing system. Discs can also be removed and sent to colleagues in the field or distributed at events and conferences.
Files such as multimedia presentations, digital images, databases and spreadsheets can easily be shared or archived off a hard drive. Traditional document imaging applications, such as medical and financial can take advantage of the Fyla CD-R jukeboxes, as well as small law offices, schools, advertising agencies, graphic arts houses and corporations of almost any size.
Flexibility
Flexibility is critical when selecting a CD-ROM/CD-Recordable jukebox because different computing environments have different needs. Fyla customers can tailor their system to meet their specific needs since the Fyla jukeboxes can be configured with a combination of two to six CD-ROM and CD-Recordable drives with a capacity range of 81GB to 162GB. For example, a jukebox used primarily for reference purposes would be configured with only CD-ROM drives while an archiving application would utilize multiple CD-R drives. Fyla jukeboxes can also grow along with users' needs with their ability to be daisy-chained for nearly limitless data storage.
Pricing and Availability
The suggested list prices (MSRP) of the Fyla series jukeboxes start at $10,995 and all models have a one-year limited warranty. Fyla CD-ROM jukeboxes with CD-R capability are currently shipping and the new jukeboxes, with 8X - 12X CD-ROM drives and 4X/6X CD-R drives, will begin shipping in June.
