Databeam expands its presence in Pacific Rim with Japanese office and licensing agreements

Company Announces New Pacific Rim Sales Force and Customers
DataBeam Corp. today announced several initiatives to expand distribution of its standards-based collaborative software technologies and developers' tools in the Pacific Rim, including the establishment of a sales office in Tokyo, Japan. The company has appointed two new business development representatives to support and further stimulate its growth in the Pacific Rim. The company also announced a number of licensing and reseller agreements in Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
Yoshiyuki Nakura, who will start as General Manager of OEM Business Development on May 1, will direct the opening of a new office in Tokyo. Nakura will be responsible for OEM distribution of DataBeam's H.323 and T.120 Toolkits and Conference Server products. These products allow third party developers to incorporate real-time, multipoint data exchange and multimedia communications capabilities into their own products and services. Nakura comes to DataBeam from Nihon Cisco K.K. where he served as Business Development Manager. He also brings experience from his work with Canon.
Edmun Laurea, DataBeam's recently appointed Director of Market Development for Asia/Pacific, will focus on channel development from the company's San Francisco Bay Area office. Laurea is an industry veteran with 10 years of international marketing experience. He most recently served as Senior Marketing Manager for Asia/Pacific at Autodesk, Inc.
DataBeam also announced technology licensing agreements with ETRI, KDD, Mitsubishi Electronics, NEC, NTT Data, Samsung, Sony, and Toyotsu Telecom. These companies are researching or creating a variety of real-time communications products based on DataBeam's standards-compliant technology. The company has also established significant reseller activities in the region. In Japan, DataBeam licensed Intercom Corporation to create a localized versions and distribute its FarSite and neT.120 Conference Server applications. The company has appointed Collaborative Computing as a Master Reseller in Australia and Dynamic Communications as a Master Reseller in New Zealand.
