Gensym introduces Fault Expert 2.0 for increased network availability and service levels
Business Wire, April 16, 1997
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 16, 1997--Gensym Corp. (NASDAQ: GNSM), a leading provider of software products and services for creating intelligent systems, today announced the beta shipment of Fault Expert version 2.0. Fault Expert is a software product that provides intelligent fault management to increase the availability and service levels of large, complex networked environments.
"The availability of mission-critical applications and services is the very life line of many organizations today," said Bill Wood, vice president and general manager of Gensyms Communications Business Unit. "Yet the complexity of managing their availability, and that of all the resources upon which they depend, exceeds the capabilities of commonly installed systems. Traditional network management tools can be overwhelmed by the huge volume of events, alarms, and messages. They are often incapable of quickly isolating the root cause of failures which may be in the network, in the systems supporting the applications, or in the applications themselves," Wood continued.
Fault Expert is a proven solution for managing the availability of mission-critical applications and services. Leading communications companies such as AT&T, Motorola Satellite Communications, Stanford Telecommunications, Ericsson Hewlett-Packard Telecommunications AB, Integrated Architectures, and I-NET are taking advantage of Fault Expert and/or other Gensym products to manage availability and improve service levels.
Fault Expert provides intelligent fault management to ensure the availability of mission-critical applications and services in distributed networks. It can detect and filter events from any application or device within a distributed environment including network devices, operating system components, and the applications and services running on the network. Then, using sophisticated rules and procedures, Fault Expert continuously analyzes and correlates events, advises operators of probable root causes, and can even initiate automated corrective actions. Moreover, Fault Expert can proactively warn operators of impending network problems. As an intelligent system, Fault Expert understands the logical relationships among all elements in a networked environment, so it can provide end-to-end fault correlation at a layer above network elements and traditional network management solutions.
Fault Expert 2.0 is expected to be commercially available in June 1997 on a variety of platforms including HP-UX, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, and Windows NT.
