STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 1997--

New Affinity Feature Offers Internet Consumers Targeted Book Recommendations Based on Consumer Purchasing Patterns

CUC International Inc. (NYSE:CU) announced today that its Books Stacks division (http://www.books.com) has launched a new service called Affinity. This feature will enable users to explore the selections of other Book Stacks' customers with similar tastes and also obtain valuable, personalized book-buying recommendations. Affinity is anonymous and requires no input from the user.

While viewing information on a particular book, the customer can simply click the Affinity link, providing instantaneous access to a list of titles which are similar to the book the customer is considering. Matching is accomplished by using five years of customer-buying information gathered by Book Stacks. Affinity is the first intelligent agent that leverages such a vast amount of purchasing data from an international community of book buyers.

Charles Stack, president and founder of Book Stacks, commented, "The difference between Affinity and other intelligent agent systems is the ease of use and depth of personalized information provided to consumers. Affinity utilizes actual book buying histories and patterns to make recommendations to consumers. This is considerably more relevant and value added to the consumer than other agent systems."

CUC International is a leading membership-based consumer services company that currently provides approximately 66.3 million consumers worldwide with access to home shopping, travel, insurance, automobile, dining, home improvement, lifestyle clubs, checking account enhancement, and discount coupon programs.
