Data General announces support for Microsoft Wolfpack Windows NT server clustering technology
Business Wire, April 29, 1997
WESTBORO, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 29, 1997--Data General Corporation announced today that its unique Cluster-in-a-Box clustering solution will support Microsoft's forthcoming Wolfpack Windows NT Server clustering technology.
Data General said that it will expand its Windows NT Server clustering offerings to include the Microsoft clustering technology in addition to Veritas FirstWatch for NT, which currently runs on its Cluster-in-a-Box product line.
"Adding Microsoft's Wolfpack clustering technology will enable our customers to achieve high availability solutions with a much greater degree of software integration with such BackOffice products as Microsoft SQL Server and Exchange Server," said David Ellenberger, Vice President of Corporate Marketing for Data General.
Mark Wood, Product Manager for Wolfpack at Microsoft, said, "Microsoft is excited that Data General will be offering Wolfpack in its easily-deployed Cluster-in-a-Box packaging. The combination of Data General's established expertise in high availability engineering, coupled with the standard clustering support of Windows NT Server and Wolfpack should offer a compelling solution for enterprise customers seeking a platform for their mission critical applications and data."
Data General's NT Cluster-in-a-Box family is the only Windows NT Server clustering solution that comes pre-assembled, and pre-tested in a single rackmounted system. Cluster-in-a- Box currently includes two Pentium Pro processor based AViiON servers, a fault tolerant CLARiiON RAID technology storage system, NT Alert automated detection service support and FirstWatch for NT failover software from Veritas Software Corporation.
"This is the first Windows NT Server clustering solution that allows businesses to run their applications 24 hours a day, seven days a week in a single pre-configured system that users can simply plug in and turn on," added Mr. Ellenberger.
