Business Wire, April 29, 1997

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 29, 1997--Rockwell Semiconductor Systems Tuesday announced that Vijay Parikh has been appointed vice president and general manager of the company's Multimedia Communications Division (MCD).

He reports to Dwight Decker, Rockwell Semiconductor Systems president.

Parikh will oversee day-to-day operations for the division, which ships a majority of the world's computer modem chipsets each year and is an early leader in the deployment of 56Kbps modem chipsets. Volume production of the company's K56flex modem chipsets began this month, and support for the company's technology continues to grow among service providers, central-site equipment manufactures, client-side modem makers, PC OEMs and other leading chip suppliers.

"Vijay has been an integral part of Rockwell's success for many years," said Decker. "His wide range of business experience includes domestic and international marketing and product line management. He has the edge that will enable us to expand the Multimedia Communications Division during an important time in the division's growth."

Parikh joined Rockwell in 1982 and was most recently vice president and general manager of the company's Wireless Communications Division (WCD). He replaces Armando Geday, who left Rockwell to join GlobeSpan Corp. as its chief executive officer.

"It is very exciting to be rejoining the Multimedia Communications Division at such a pivotal time for the company and for the industry," said Parikh. "Modems have been one of the hottest product success stories of this decade, and have literally become the digital traveler's passport to an exciting new world. Rockwell is well-positioned to help the communication industry open a new chapter of growth."

Rockwell Semiconductor Systems, based in Newport Beach, comprises the Multimedia Communications Division (MCD), the Wireless Communications Division (WCD), the Network Access Division (NAD), and the Digital Infotainment Division.

MCD is the world leader in facsimile and PC modem devices and is one of several strategically interrelated businesses for the company in the personal communications electronics marketplace. WCD offers total system solutions for advanced cordless telephony and global positioning systems receiver engines. NAD offers a broad line of high-bandwidth communications and networking devices.

The Digital Infotainment Division focuses on products for the digital consumer electronics information and entertainment markets.
