Business Wire, April 30, 1997
BERKELEY, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--April 30, 1997--HealthDesk Corporation (NASDAQ:HDSK), a leading developer of disease management software, introduced software that enables diabetes patients to use their home computers and the Internet to interact with physicians and track their disease.
The software, HealthDesk OnLine for Diabetes, is designed to make diabetes management easier, more accurate and cost-effective through greater patient involvement.
"Patient behavior modification is a key to lowering the costs and complications of diabetes. Partnering with HealthDesk to increase patient access to the ADA materials is a big step in the right direction," stated Belinda Childs, RN, MN, CDE, president-healthcare and education, the American Diabetes Association. HealthDesk recently reached an agreement with ADA to use selected ADA patient education materials in HealthDesk's software.
Patients, families, and physicians can now track and exchange customized medical information via a private system. HealthDesk OnLine for Diabetes is designed to track pertinent diabetes management information such as glucose levels, diet and exercise, and insulin dosage. The system also educates and alerts the patient to warning signs which may require a physician's attention.
In addition, the patient receives care reminders, meal planning assistance, personalized newsletters, and easy access to a proprietary and comprehensive health library on the HealthDesk private Web site.
"We developed the software to provide diabetes patients and their families with a personalized support system, giving them improved access to information and their providers. This enables them to self-manage their disease as well as facilitate communication with their health providers. By helping patients and their families better manage diabetes, HealthDesk OnLine for Diabetes is designed to reduce the medical costs associated with their care," noted Peter O'Donnell, CEO and president of HealthDesk Corporation.
"This is a winning solution for both the patient and the healthcare professional."
HealthDesk recently signed other agreements with major educational and reference materials suppliers to create a comprehensive health library, including information from the HealthWise Knowledgebase.
