Puma Technology Enhances IntelliSync Software to Support Symantec's ACT! Contact Management Application; IntelliSync's Content-Aware Synchronization Capabilities Provides Seamless Way To Transfer Data To And From PC Companions
Business Wire, April 4, 1997
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 4, 1997--Through a new extension to its widely embraced family of IntelliSync software packages, Puma Technology, Inc., (NASDAQ:PUMA), will bring a new level of content-aware data synchronization capabilities to a large number of Symantec ACT! 3.0 users. Puma, the leading provider of Mobile Data Exchange(TM) software solutions, has enhanced its line of IntelliSync solutions to meet the needs of users adopting this lauded contact management software application.
Puma's IntelliSync technology is a groundbreaking software offering which allows users to easily access, exchange and synchronize information on a variety of computing devices in a content-aware fashion at the record and field levels. This dramatically exceeds other solutions which can only handle data or file transfer-level tasks. By extending IntelliSync's compatibility to ACT!, one of the industry's largest group of users will be able to take or record information on the road via one of the new class of mobile devices, such as the U.S. Robotics PalmPilot Connected Organizers and the new wave of Windows CE handheld PCs, then seamlessly synchronize that data with their desktop or notebook PC.
ACT! 3.0 support for both IntelliSync for PalmPilot and IntelliSync for Windows CE will be available in April from Puma. IntelliSync for Windows CE will include support for ACT! 3.0 immediately through its first shipments. Current users of IntelliSync for PalmPilot can obtain the ACT! extension for $34.95 either directly from Puma or via Puma's Web site at www.pumatech.com, or can subscribe to Puma's new Premier Upgrade Subscription Service which will provide subscribers with one full year of upgrades for $49.95 regardless of the number of upgrades. New IntelliSync for PalmPilot users will find support for ACT! 3.0, as well as support for many other popular applications, off-the-shelf in the retail channel. The IntelliSync product offerings carry a suggested retail price of $69.95 and are available through numerous retail outlets nationwide.
"To continue meeting the needs of mobile professionals, it was an obvious next step to extend our IntelliSync family to support ACT! 3.0," said Brad Rowe, president and CEO of Puma Technology. "We believe that this extension to IntelliSync will positively impact thousands of ACT! 3.0 users who frequently travel and require a reliable method to ensure that data taken on the road is seamlessly synchronized back with desktop systems. It is our goal to continue making solutions that will enable handheld devices of all kinds to communicate with PC-based applications like ACT! and to help the PC Companion marketplace continue to grow."
With more than 1,000,000 users worldwide, Symantec's ACT! for Windows 95 and Windows NT is one of the leading contact management software applications used by professionals and workgroups to manage their business relationships more effectively. Users of ACT! 3.0 rely on this contact management application to increase their productivity in maintaining detailed, updated, and accurate databases of all business contacts. Not only is IntelliSync a boon to ACT! users, it also has the potential to further the viability of the rapidly emerging PC Companion market.
The ACT! extension to the IntelliSync software product family will enable users of ACT! to directly synchronize the data contained in this application with similar information contained in various PC companion devices. Puma's first IntelliSync offering was designed for use with U.S. Robotics' Pilot Connected Organizer. The company has expanded its IntelliSync offering to now support U.S. Robotics' latest PalmPilot Personal and Professional pocket organizers and a broad range of new Windows CE-based devices.
IntelliSync has the unique ability to make the content of two different databases identical since it is completely aware of the actual structure and content of the information contained in both databases. For example, a US Robotics Pilot user can use IntelliSync for PalmPilot to synchronize the data in the PalmPilot directly with a number of PC-based applications. In addition to ACT! 3.0, Puma's IntelliSync family also supports other PC-based applications such as Outlook 97, Schedule , Lotus Organizer, GoldMine, NetManage ECCO, DayTimer Organizer, Sidekick and other popular applications.
