Business Wire, April 7, 1997
PRINCETON, NJ--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 1997--Robert A. Davies III, President and Chief Executive Officer of Church & Dwight Co., Inc., announced today the appointment of Eugene F. Wilcauskas as president of the company's Specialty Products Division. The Specialty Products Division accounted for $150 million in sales in 1996. Bicarbonate- and carbonate-based specialty chemicals sold by this division are used in more than a dozen major industries, from food and beverages, health and beauty aids, pharmaceuticals, and animal nutrition, to environmentally superior industrial cleaning products.
Commenting on the appointment of Mr. Wilkauskas, Mr. Davies said, "Gene's varied experience and leadership will add a new dimension to our chemical business, where his role will be to manage the growth and improve the returns on this important segment of our business."
Mr. Wilcauskas was most recently an advisor to Investec Strategies Inc., a private firm that provides advisory services for the development and commercialization of emerging technologies.
Prior to that, Mr. Wilcauskas was president of Akzo Nobel Inc. with oversight responsibility for Akzo Nobel's $2.7 billion chemicals, coatings, fibers, and health care operations in North America. Mr. Wilcauskas joined Akzo Nobel in early 1986 as a result of the company's acquisition of the Wilson-Fiberfil Division from Plastics Specialties & Technologies Inc. (a privately held corporation with $350 million in annual sales), where he was a principal, a board member, and a corporate vice president.
Upon assuming his new position, Mr. Wilcauskas stated, "Church & Dwight has done an outstanding job of building a specialty chemicals business, virtually from the ground up, over the last 20 years. While the business is confined mainly to the United States, the technology is world-class. I see opportunities to expand this business both in the U.S. and internationally, and look forward to leading it during its next important growth phase."
Mr. Wilcauskas began his career with Monsanto Company and progressed through various levels of sales, marketing, and management responsibility. From Monsanto he joined Dart & Kraft to help in the reorganization of the company's operations in chemicals and plastics. This effort culminated in his participation in the successful management buyout of the Dart & Kraft Specialty Chemicals Group.
In addition to earning a degree in Business Administration from Boston University, Mr. Wilcauskas is a graduate of the Harvard Advanced Management Program.
Established in 1846, Church & Dwight Co., Inc. is the manufacturer of ARM & HAMMER(R) brand products and the leading U.S. supplier of sodium bicarbonate and related chemicals.
