Logitech delivers support for new still image architecture under Microsoft Windows & Windows NT; True plug-and-play image capture for next-generation personal computers
Business Wire, April 8, 1997
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 8, 1997--Logitech, international market leader in control devices and imaging solutions for the personal computer, today announced that it is working with Microsoft to bring a new still image architecture to the next generation of Windows and Windows NT systems.
Logitech has been a leading provider of handheld and sheetfed personal scanners since the introduction of the initial ScanMan product in 1988. The company was the first to bring 24-bit color to both handheld and sheetfed units and continues to break new ground with innovative products such as the award-winning PageScan Color Pro and more recently, the first USB (Universal Serial Bus) scanner, PageScan USB, which will be marketed as an OEM product later this year. In addition, Logitech is an active participant in industry standards efforts, such as the original TWAIN Working Group and more recently, the USB Developers' Forum.
"We're pleased that Microsoft has chosen to work on the new still image architecture with Logitech," said Philippe Depallens, Logitech software engineering manager. "This architecture will result in a new level of simplicity and performance as users discover the power of true plug-and-play image capture. We believe that scanning will be a popular addition to next-generation systems," he added, "with its potential for bringing images and text into a variety of documents and creative projects. Logitech scanner drivers will also be included in the `Memphis' operating system, reinforcing our position of industry leadership and technical excellence."
Founded in 1981, Logitech designs, manufactures and markets products that make the interface between people and computers more intuitive and natural. Retail and OEM product offerings include pointing devices such as mice and trackballs, sheetfed and handheld scanners, control devices for entertainment and professional use and digital video cameras. Logitech maintains operational headquarters in Fremont, California and regional headquarters in Romanel, Switzerland, and Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. In addition, the company maintains offices in major cities in North America, Europe and Asia. Logitech International, the holding company for the Logitech Group, is traded publicly in Switzerland on the Zurich and in the United States on the Nasdaq (LOGIY). -0-
