Baltimore Technologies Launches CST for VB, the World's First Cryptography Toolkit for Visual Basic

DUBLIN, Ireland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 1997--Baltimore Technologies confirms their leadership in information security with the launch of CST for VB, a cryptography toolkit for Visual Basic developers.

CST for VB, the latest version of the world class CST product, has been specially designed for Visual Basic applications. Its powerful, rich set of cryptographic components enable developers to build strong information security systems facilitating secure data transmission, data storage/retrieval, encrypted email and secure communication.

Cryptography is essential for software developers wishing to add confidentiality, authentication, and validation to any form of data. As Visual Basic is one of the most popular programming languages a unique requirement exists for a toolkit that provides cryptographic functionality and can be called by not only VB but any language that can call a DLL.

CST for VB contains implementations of the most popular and trusted cryptographic algorithms (RSA, DSA, DES, Triple DES, IDEA etc.). These are accessed through an Application Programmer's Interface (API) which is based on Microsoft's well-known Crypto API (CAPI), enabling developers to include cryptographic functions in their applications in a straightforward and consistent manner.

It also provides access to a range of powerful pseudo-random number generators. RSA keys can be up to 2048 bits in length, and DSA keys can be any length up to the 1024 bit maximum length specified in the standard.

CST for VB is provided as a DLL originally written in C so programmers can combine the speed and power of C with the ease of development of VB to add full cryptographic functionality to VB applications in a few minutes.

CST for VB is currently being used by organisations worldwide to satisfy specific security applications.
