The American Education Corp. is Selected to Provide Support for Kentucky's Migrant Worker Literacy Initiatives

OKLAHOMA CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 1997--The American Education Corp. (NASDAQ/OTC/BB: AEDU) announces that the company and its award-winning A dvanced Learning System(R) product line has been selected to support the KY Migrant Worker Technology Project (the Project) objectives.
The Project is a result of a U.S. Department of Education contract awarded to the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative (OVEC), LaGrange, Ky. Other partners participating in this consortium are the Kentucky Department of Education, the Kentucky Department of Adult Education and Literacy, the University of Louisville, the Kentucky Tobacco Growers Association, four regional and 11 school district Migrant Education Programs, district-level Family and Youth Service Centers and district-level Adult Education Centers.

This contract is a five-year effort to utilize technology to improve both the academic performance and the continuity of the academic resources available to this mobile population. The company will provide current curriculum content from its A dvanced Learning System(R) to 11 school districts that are serviced by OVEC. The company's software content and the Project will support elementary, middle, high school and adult literacy learners. In addition, the company will work as a partner with OVEC to provide special academic assessment tools, specialized curriculum and Internet delivery methods for instructional content.
The company will immediately benefit from its selection in this program by purchases of its products. On a longer-term basis the technology goals of the Project mesh with the company's plans to expand its curriculum scope, develop school-to-home content delivery, provide Internet distance/self-directed learning services, sophisticated data portability and centralized student record capability.
The company's A dvanced Learning System family of educational software products provides an integrated suite of grade 1-12 software for reading, language arts, science, writing, history, government, economics and geography publications. Spanish language versions are available for mathematics grade levels 1-9. This comprehensive family of educational software is now in use in 3,000 schools, centers of adult literacy and correctional institutions.
