Pep Boys Announces Additional Rental Car Company in Pilot Program with Republic Industries
Business Wire, August 22, 1997
PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 1997--The Pep Boys -- Manny, Moe & Jack (NYSE:PBY), the nation's leading automotive aftermarket retail and service chain, announced that ten Snappy Rental Car locations will be added to the pilot program involving National Car Rental and Alamo-Rent-A-Car that was announced on Aug. 14, 1997, along with two other pilot programs involving Republic Industries.
Consistent with the National and Alamo pilot programs, each of which involve four cities and will begin on or about Sept. 1, 1997, Republic will outsource to Pep Boys up to 50% of the fleet maintenance, reconditioning and non-warranty repairs at certain of its rental car locations.
The ten Snappy locations are in Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa (2) and Brandon, Fla.; Richardson, Houston and Irving, Texas; and Nashville and Chattanooga, Tenn.
Pep Boys' CEO, Mitchell G. Leibovitz, made the following comments:
"We are pleased that Republic Industries has added Snappy Car Rental to the pilot program that already includes National and Alamo. We appreciate their confidence and believe that we will be able to lower their rental car reconditioning costs at the pilot program locations and, hopefully, on a much broader basis, with Republic Industries."
