PeopleSoft's Three-Tier Architecture Features UNIX and NT Platform Support; PeopleSoft 7 Application Server Supports Leading UNIX Platforms from Digital Equipment, HP, IBM, and Sun Microsystems, as well as Microsoft's Windows NT Server

PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 1997--PeopleSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ:PSFT), a leading provider of enterprise application software, today announced that PeopleSoft 7, due for release in September, will feature three-tier transaction processing with application server support for Microsoft's Windows NT Server 4.0, as well as leading Unix platforms from Digital Equipment, Hewlett-Packard Company, IBM, and Sun Microsystems.

"Digital, HP, IBM, and Sun have committed substantial resources to deliver and optimize the PeopleSoft 7 application server on Unix platforms. This provides our customers with the choice of deploying the application server within their preferred hardware environment. Customers also have the flexibility to implement Microsoft's Windows NT as their application server."
The addition of an application server in PeopleSoft 7 provides improved performance across wide area networks, greater scalability to support more users, the flexibility to choose between two- and three-tier transaction processing, and the use of PeopleSoft's Java-based Web Client. This application server communicates with the database server through BEA TUXEDO, a proven middleware product from BEA Systems, Inc., known for its high throughput, availability, and reliability for distributed application needs.

The PeopleSoft 7 application server, the new addition to the PeopleSoft architecture, will be available in September 1997 on Microsoft's Windows NT; Digital Unix 4.0; HP's HP-UX 10.20; IBM AIX 4.2.1; and Sun Microsystems Solaris 2.5.1.
In addition to these application server platforms, PeopleSoft 7 also supports database processing on the following server platforms: Digital Open VMS; IBM OS 390 and AS 400; Unix platforms from Data General, Digital, HP, IBM, NCR, Santa Cruz Operation, Sequent, Siemens Nixdorf, Silicon Graphics, Sun, and Unisys; as well as Microsoft NT Server.
