Apertus Technologies Announces Web Browser Access to HP 3000-Based Applications
Business Wire, August 26, 1997
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 1997--
Company will showcase new Enterprise/Access
2.5 capabilities at HP World
Apertus Technologies Incorporated (NASDAQ: APTS) today announced Web browser-based access to HP 3000 applications using version 2.5 of Enterprise/Access, Apertus' application server solution for integrating host applications with the Web. Apertus will demonstrate its 2392A terminal emulation support for the popular Hewlett-Packard midrange server at HP World '97 in Chicago, August 26-28.
"By providing Web-based access to traditional business-critical applications via Apertus' Enterprise/Access, HP is rewarding its HP 3000 users with precisely the kind of functional extensions they've wanted," says Robert H. Dorin, senior analyst, Aberdeen Group, Inc. "The product allows existing apps to be opened up for Internets and intranets easily -- the architecture minimizes the development investment required to do so. With partners like Apertus, HP is fulfilling its promise that the HP 3000 will meet IS needs through the end of the decade."
Apertus has been an HP partner since 1993 and a Premier Solutions Partner since 1995. The Company's Enterprise/Access is available on the UNIX- based HP 9000 platform and HP products have been included in Enterprise/Access solutions at PacBell, ReliaStar Financial, Ameritech, and ManTech.
"Enterprise/Access is about easily extending corporate investments in existing host resources to new environments, particularly the Internet," said Steve Gimnicher, vice president of marketing, Apertus Internet Solutions Division. "The HP 3000 remains a solid host platform for a large user base and Enterprise/Access can now integrate it with the Web or ease migration to a platform such as the HP 9000."
"Our HP 3000 customers are very interested in this capability, especially for Web-enabling VPlus applications," said Alvina Nishimoto, Hewlett- Packard Company R&D Internet program manager. "It's a three-tier solution that makes VPlus applications graphically intuitive and easy to use. And Enterprise/Access does it quickly and affordably."
Apertus recently introduced a proof-of-concept program called "Apertus a la Carte" for organizations interested in seeing how quickly legacy-to-Web pages can be developed with Enterprise/Access. In 48 hours or less, the Company promises to Web-enable up to fifteen screens from character-based legacy systems such as the HP 3000. Customers simply provide Apertus with access to the host systems.
Enterprise/Access has been designed to minimize programming with a powerful development studio, automatic code generation, and an object-oriented framework to maximize reuse. With Enterprise/Access, there is no need for any changes to the existing host, application, or data.
