EFI and Seiko Epson Announce Plans to Launch the Fiery LX PS-5000 in Japan; Fiery Color Server Will Drive the Epson PM-5000C Color Inkjet Printer

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 1997--Electronics for Imaging, Inc. (NASDAQ:EFII), today announced plans to launch the Fiery(r) LX PS-5000 Network Color Server for the Epson PM-5000C Color Inkjet Printer in Japan.
EFI and Epson have collaborated on the color server for Epson's 6-color technology PM-5000C Printer. This relationship will allow the companies to bring EFI's Fiery Color Server to a new segment of the Japanese market. The color server will offer a suite of user software and Adobe PostScript(tm) drivers as well as Fiery WebTools(tm); which allow users to access job information and print status, and reorder reprint jobs via the world wide web.

About the EFI Fiery LX PS-5000 Network Color Server
EFI's Fiery Color Server enables the high speed Epson printer to produce superior color output. The Fiery LX PS-5000 offers high performance using a MIPS R4700 RISC Processor, proprietary Fiery ASICs and 32-megabytes of memory. It offers an on-board Ethernet interface and comes with full support for TCP/IP, Novell NetWare (including NDS), and AppleTalk protocols.
In addition, it provides full support for Windows 95, Windows NT, Mac OS and Unix workstations. The Fiery Color Server will be available in Japan in the fourth quarter of 1997 through Epson Sales, for a suggested retail price of 598,000 (yen).

The Epson PM-5000C Color Inkjet Printer supports super A3/B size output capability at 1440 x 720 dpi resolution. Epson's inkjet technology offers several cost benefits to end users, including low cost-per-page and low maintenance costs. With the Fiery, the Epson PM-5000C utilizes color calibrations for prepress users, such as DIC and SWOP, which allow the printer to emulate proofing targets used by the prepress industry for graphic arts applications.
