Acclaim Entertainment Inc. Licenses SciTech Technology

Business Wire, August 8, 1997

CHICO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 1997--SciTech Software Inc. today announced it has licensed its proprietary SVGA device driver technology to Acclaim Entertainment for distribution with "X-Men, Children of the Atom."

The technology licensed by Acclaim Entertainment is based on SciTech Display Doctor, the universal graphics card utility. This technology automatically detects a user's installed SVGA graphics hardware and upgrades it to the latest industry standards. SciTech Display Doctor provides support for nearly every SVGA graphics chip (over 250 chips), which will ensure that Acclaim's software will run at optimal performance within a variety of graphics hardware configurations.

"`X-Men, Children of the Atom' is a very graphics-intensive game, so we needed to be able to fully utilize the graphics hardware. SciTech's technology allows our software to interface with the graphics hardware so that the game will run at maximum performance," said Roger Booth, director of engineering for Acclaim Entertainment.

Tom Ryan, director of marketing for SciTech Software, added, "By including SciTech's technology, software developers don't have to compromise their game design to make up for varying graphics hardware. Short of purchasing new hardware, many PC users would be unable to run today's graphics-intensive software programs like `X-Men, Children of the Atom' without SciTech's technology."

Fully functional trial versions of SciTech's products, including SciTech Display Doctor, are available for download at www.scitechsoft.com . Users can also access the trial versions of SciTech products on CompuServe using GO SCITECH. SciTech Display Doctor sells for $34.95 (plus shipping and handling) and can be purchased directly from SciTech Software by calling 916/894-8400 or 800/486-4823 (in the U.S. and Canada).

Acclaim Entertainment Inc., a leading worldwide publisher of software for Nintendo, Sega, Sony and personal computer hardware systems, also publishes comic books under a variety of imprints. In addition, Acclaim develops coin-operated arcade and ticket-redemption games, operates motion capture studios and, through A.D.I., globally sells and distributes products from a variety of entertainment software publishers including Interplay and others.

SciTech Software is the leading supplier of PC graphics device drivers for high-performance graphics applications such as PC entertainment software. Most major entertainment software companies license portions of SciTech's technology for incorporation in their applications.
