Business Wire, Dec 15, 1997
PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 1997--
Web Technology and Three-Tier Architecture Provide
Next-Generation Service and Performance
PeopleSoft, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise application software, today announced that PeopleSoft HRMS for Public Sector Release 7 will be generally available later this month. The release provides state and local organizations with the new technology of PeopleSoft 7, including a flexible high-performance three-tier architecture, a new Web Client, and integrated on-line analytical processing (OLAP). In addition, the new release includes PeopleSoft's Universal Applications for web-based self-service transactions.
"PeopleSoft HRMS for Public Sector Release 7 will provide human resource managers with critical data about their organizations and added functionality to address the growing demand for information access," said Paul Salsgiver, general manager and vice president, PeopleSoft Education and Government. "State and local organizations will benefit from faster, more reliable performance, wide access to PeopleSoft applications, and robust reporting and analysis capabilities."
PeopleSoft HRMS for Public Sector, which debuted in March, enables public sector organizations -- provincial, state and local governments, and non-profit institutions -- to support specific human resources operations and requirements with adherence to regulatory standards. PeopleSoft HRMS for Public Sector Release 7 includes Human Resources, Benefits Administration, FSA Administration, Payroll, and Payroll Interface applications. Public sector-specific enhancements include Human Resources Budgeting, FICA Eligibility at job level, Contract Pay, Tax Treaties, and 1042 Processing. (For specific information about these applications, see May 5, 1997 news release titled "PeopleSoft Delivers New Public Sector Software Products," http://www.peoplesoft.com/news_and_events/ps_news.htm).
"We considered hundreds of functional requirements to replace our existing systems. PeopleSoft HRMS for Public Sector was able to address a majority of those requirements," said Linda Tebussek, project manager, City of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. "By upgrading to Release 7, we hope to improve service and information access for our workforce by providing self-service functionality through the use of Web applications."
Improved Technology Helps Manage and Serve the Public Sector Workforce
PeopleSoft HRMS for Public Sector Release 7 delivers significant technology enhancements including a flexible high-performance three-tier processing option, a new Web Client, and integrated on-line analytical processing (OLAP). This release also marks the general availability of PeopleSoft's Universal Applications for self-service transactions on the World Wide Web.
The three-tier processing option in this release leverages BEA Systems, Inc.'s Tuxedo middleware technology, allowing for larger volumes of concurrent users, greater scalability, and improved performance across local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). PeopleSoft's three-tier architecture efficiently distributes processing across the database server, the application server, and the client, thereby increasing the speed, performance, and security of all transactions.
PeopleSoft HRMS for Public Sector Release 7 provides developers with the flexibility to define an application once, then deploy it on either a Web or a Windows Client, without additional development. This flexibility represents tremendous savings for organizations over time. The Web Client enables employees to access centralized data and instantly view or change human resources information using today's popular Web browsers. Included with the new release are PeopleSoft's Universal Applications, which provide self-service functionality across the Internet to geographically dispersed and "occasionally connected" public sector employees.
This release delivers on PeopleSoft's strategy to integrate OLAP tools at all levels, from the desktop to the data warehouse. PeopleSoft will offer integration with both Cognos's PowerPlay desktop OLAP tools and Arbor Essbase OLAP Server, resulting in accurate, timely reporting of precise data that enables organizations to detect and analyze trends and create more accurate projections.
PeopleSoft established a business unit devoted to the public sector market in 1994. PeopleSoft HRMS for Public Sector, released in March 1997, was developed to manage the complex human resources, compensation and payroll requirements associated with state and local government organizations. Released in 1995, PeopleSoft Financials for Public Sector was developed to meet the unique financial requirements of public sector organizations. PeopleSoft has more than 150 public sector customers.
