EDO Corp. Awarded $4.9 Million SONAR System Contract

COLLEGE POINT, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 22, 1997--EDO Corp. (NYSE:EDO) Monday announced that it has been awarded a $4.9 million contract to supply its Model 997 Hull Mounted Sonar system to an international navy customer.
"EDO has been supplying, installing and maintaining sonar systems internationally for many years, with an installed base of more than 90 systems worldwide," said Frank A. Fariello, chairman, president and chief executive officer of EDO. "This contract reaffirms EDO's position as a leader in the international undersea warfare industry. It also demonstrates the success of our strategy to apply our advanced underwater acoustic technology in innovative and cost-effective data acquisition, processing and display systems to support the critical mission requirements of navies around the world.

"This is the initial order for our Model 997 from this customer. We believe that follow-on orders from this customer could total up to seven additional systems," he added.
EDO Combat Systems, based in Chesapeake, Va., will manufacture and deliver the Model 997 Sonar system. The Model 997, a state-of-the-art sonar that uses commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and software, is the latest in a new series of active and passive sonar systems developed by EDO Combat Systems for both surface ship and submarine applications.
