Modern Age Books Inc., a leader in electronic book publishing, and Microsoft Press, the publishing division of Microsoft Corp., today announced the signing of an agreement to provide end-users with electronic versions of Microsoft's best-selling trade computer books. Microsoft Press has licensed Modern Age to convert selected titles from several of its series of trade books into Modern Age's E-DOC electronic book engine. Modern Age will provide these electronic books to end-users through Modern Age's newly announced Web Marketplace (www.mabooks.com), as well as to computer manufacturers, the first of which is NEC Computer Products Division of Packard Bell, for bundling with their products.

The series licensed to Modern Age Books include the Inside Moves gaming strategy guides, the Field Guide quick references, the tutorial-styled Step-by-Step titles, the comprehensive Running Select Editions, and the At a Glance visual references.
According to Tony Veteri, OEM Sales Manager for Microsoft Press, "This agreement allows Microsoft Press to expand its offering in the OEM channel in two ways: by allowing Modern Age to license our content to their customers and by providing us content in an electronic format desired by our customers."
Among the titles immediately available for OEMs to bundle with their systems are Microsoft Money 97 Guide to Personal Finance, Second Edition and Microsoft Publish 97 By Design, Fourth Edition.
"By including these Money 97 and Publisher 97 books with our computer systems, we are able to provide our customers with comprehensive software and hardware instruction, written by professional authors and published by the likes of Microsoft Press," said Jon French, product manager, Consumer PC Systems, NEC Computer Products Division of Packard Bell, "We are pleased to be the first OEM to offer these new titles to buyers of new computer systems."
End users can purchase titles they are interested in directly at the Modern Age Books Marketplace. Using secure transaction technology, users enter their credit card information and, once approved, download the E-DOC directly to their hard disk. With over 30 million electronic books currently "in print," E-DOC has become the preferred format for building, delivering, and viewing book-length documents. E-DOC's use of a simple-to-understand book metaphor and intuitive, user friendly search tools has established customer loyalty versus more difficult-to-use formats. All E-DOCs support the use of "jumps" from within the document to sites on the Internet, creating a truly dynamic book that has the ability to remain current by accessing the latest information on a topic.
