Iterated Systems Announces ClearVideo 1.2

Business Wire, Feb 10, 1997

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1997--Iterated Systems, the leader in developing video and still image products and technology for network publishing and other digital media, announced today that it is upgrading its flagship product, ClearVideo, to provide compatibility with Progressive Networks' new streaming video product, RealVideo. With this announcement, ClearVideo now supports all of the major video delivery platforms; HTTP (using QuickTime and Video for Windows) and Internet streaming (using RealVideo).

"Our goal of: ClearVideo Everywhere, is another step closer to being met," said John R. Festa, president and CEO of Iterated Systems. "Our inclusion in and support of RealVideo, our historical support of Video for Windows and QuickTime, and the recent announcement of our inclusion in Oracle Corporations' Video Server for Intranet-based video, ClearVideo is now able to touch every aspect of network video publishing."

Coinciding with the release of ClearVideo 1.2 and RealVideo, Iterated is introducing a new video encoder pricing structure aimed at further accelerating the growth of the market for network video publishing.

"Our customers in the professional digital video production world understand and have acknowledged the value of ClearVideo's extreme compression capabilities for net video publishing," said Festa. "Now our mission is to make ClearVideo available to everyone who wants to communicate over networks through the use of video. With the announcement of RealVideo and ClearVideo v1.2, this market is now happening at full-speed. With this in mind we are offering an introductory price to ClearVideo 1.2. For US$395.00 customers can purchase ClearVideo 1.2 and receive a free upgrade to version 2.0 when it is released later this month." ClearVideo v2.0, when available, is expected to sell for US$495.00 ^The announcement of ClearVideo 1.2 was made in conjunction with the announcement of RealVideo and Iterated's partnership with Progressive Networks at joint events held simultaneously in New York, Palm Springs, Calif. at Demo's 97, and Cannes, France at Milia. The events were headlined by such talent as George Michael and Spike Lee, both of whom feel that this product and partnership will truly make high-quality video over the Internet more than just a nicety, it will be an expectation.

Video compressed with ClearVideo 1.2 can be easily converted from QuickTime and AVI files to RealVideo files without re-compressing, by using tools provided in RealVideo and ClearVideo 2.0. This feature will offer substantial timesavings to customers who want to deliver QuickTime or AVI files and RealVideo files. Web surfers who want to watch RealVideo, will need to download the new RealPlayer, available now in beta from http://www.real.com .

ClearVideo 1.2 offers additional enhancements beyond the support of RealVideo. ClearVideo 1.2 offers faster compression times and substantially better playback performance at higher data rates and larger frame sizes, full-motion video will not be uncommon. ClearVideo offers improved quality over previous versions, increasing yet again customers expectations for video over the Internet.

"In addition to across the board performance improvements, quality and support of RealVideo, ClearVideo 1.2 has been optimized to take advantage of Intel's MMX technology," said Brian Meek, director of Product Marketing for Iterated Systems. "Customers with MMX inside their PC, will have an `out of this world experience' with ClearVideo."

ClearVideo 1.2 will be available for purchase or as a free upgrade from version 1.1 later this month from http://www.iterated.com or by phone in US at 800-437-2285 (outside the US +404-264-8000).
