Esker to Include Microsoft Internet Explorer with Tun PLUS Suite; Leading PC to Host Interoperability Package to Include Advanced Internet Technology
Business Wire, Feb 11, 1997
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 1997--Esker Inc., a leading international developer of interoperability solutions for heterogeneous environments, today announced an agreement with Microsoft Corp.
Under the agreement, Microsoft Internet Explorer will be included with Esker's award-winning Tun PLUS suite, a software line which integrates PC clients with heterogeneous servers. This agreement gives Tun PLUS users state-of-the-art access to Web servers and robust collaboration features. The resulting product is available immediately as Tun PLUS 8.51. Pricing is US$395 for one license and US$3,155 for 10 licenses.
The Tun PLUS suite brings heterogeneous servers to Windows desktops. It enables desktop users to easily access Internet/Intranet information and simultaneously connect to existing databases, applications, network resources, etc. Tun PLUS 8.51 delivers a complete package that tightly integrates Windows NT, 95, 3.X and DOS clients with servers outside of the Windows environment.
Tun PLUS combines three distinct modules: Tun NET (full set of TCP/IP and Internet/Intranet applications), Tun SQL (SQL middleware) and Tun EMUL (completely dynamic terminal emulation tool for UNIX, DEC, HP, and IBM hosts). Microsoft Internet Explorer will be added to the Tun NET module of Tun PLUS.
The integration of Microsoft Internet Explorer benefits Tun PLUS users by enabling client access to all servers within the network and on the World Wide Web. The package provides a client tool for easy creation of a corporate Intranet. Users can also take advantage of Microsoft Internet Explorer's collaborative feature, Netmeeting, which offers multi-user application sharing, whiteboard and chat functionality.
Additionally, Microsoft Internet Explorer brings other features to Tun PLUS, including an integrated newsreader and a graphical Internet chat client.
According to Joy Weiss, president and chief executive officer of Esker: "Tun PLUS already provides an extremely cost-effective and flexible solution for IS managers looking to implement a complex, heterogeneous network infrastructure. Selecting Internet Explorer was the obvious choice to integrate into our Windows desktop environment. Tun PLUS users will now also have the most advanced Web browser on the market today."
Esker Inc. is a leading provider of Internet/Intranet solutions for heterogeneous environments. Esker's flagship product, Tun PLUS, delivers advanced features, including: Tun EMUL -- 21 terminal emulation types; Tun SQL -- SQL middleware for access to multiple RDBMSs; and Tun NET -- complete Internet/Intranet suite for TCP/IP including resource sharing, e-mail and fax.
