Texas Instruments Selects QuickLink Message Center III; Smith Micro's QuickLink Message Center III To Provide the TravelMate 6160 with Sophisticated Communication and Voice Features

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 1997--Smith Micro Software, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS:SMSI), a leading provider of telecommunications and fax software, announced today that it is entering into a one year license agreement to provide Texas Instruments with their QuickLink(R) MessageCenter III for use in the new high performance TravelMate 6160 notebook computer.
The software will provide the notebook computer with sophisticated voice, fax and telecommunications features including voice messaging, full-duplex speaker phone operation, voice mail with remote retrieval, and Fax-On-Demand.
Designed to provide mobile business professionals with full desktop computer functionality and advanced communications capability, the TravelMate 6160 includes a 33.6 Kbps modem with digital simultaneous voice/data (DSVD), fax, and advanced telephony capabilities. Texas Instruments selected QuickLink MessageCenter III to enable users of the TravelMate 6160 to take full advantage of the advanced built-in modem.

QuickLink MessageCenter III expands these features into a complete mobile office, integrating data and fax with sophisticated full duplex speakerphone and voice messaging.
The fax portion of QuickLink MessageCenter III can automatically send and receive faxes using the built-in TravelMate 6160 fax modem. The MessageCenter's voice support enables users to set up their computers as answering machines or voice message centers from their office or on the road. The voice feature includes a voice answering machine with customizable mailboxes.
The data application provides a wide range of terminal emulations, and enables connection to online services, BBS's, and other computers.
