Business Wire, Feb 17, 1997
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 17, 1997--
Provides Wireless Remote Access To Office-Bound Information
Sidus(R) Computer Corporation, a leading North American contract manufacturer and systems integrator, and Motorola Monday jointly announced that Sidus' industry-standard personal computer hardware is being integrated with Motorola's award-winning Air Apparent(TM) wireless communications software.
The new communications server, called Corsida(TM), will be marketed by Sidus to enterprises that can benefit from mobile employees receiving e-mail messages, network management updates, monitoring information and other data directly on their alphanumeric pagers. This provides a wireless messaging solution that supports paging devices on any paging network.
Markets for the Corsida server include healthcare, manufacturing, security, retail, customer service dispatch, industrial and refinery automation, and financial data feeds. For example, healthcare professionals can receive lab results or monitoring alerts, on-the-go business people can be alerted to e-mail messages as they are received, and any user can establish a "trigger" that automatically transmits time-sensitive information, such as stock prices.
"The combination of reliable, cost-effective PC hardware and leading-edge wireless communications software in a fully supported product represents a significant new business opportunity for Sidus," said Sidus CEO Henry Kalisky.
"We're pleased to be working with Sidus to extend the reach of wireless communications technology," said Romi Lessig, Motorola's business manager for Air Apparent. "Corsida is a great productivity tool for people who want to stay in touch with important information."
Available now and priced from approximately $5,000, the Corsida server features a 166 MHz Pentium processor and can be scaled to meet the needs of five to 5,000 users. The server runs under the most widely used operating systems, including Windows NT(R), Novell NetWare(R) and IBM OS/2(R).
Based in Austin, Texas, Sidus Computer Corporation designs and manufactures customer-branded personal computers, high-performance servers and SPARC workstations, and provides related systems integration services. The company also distributes computer peripherals to dealers, resellers and other computer manufacturers in North and South America.
Motorola is one of the world's leading providers of wireless communications, semiconductors, and advanced electronic systems, components and services.
