Sun Delivers Internet WorkShop, Solaris Object Environment To Develop, Deploy, & Manage Internet Client/Server Applications
Business Wire, Feb 4, 1997
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 1997--Sun Microsystems Inc., today announced the immediate availability of Sun Internet WorkShop(TM) development tool suite and Solaris(TM) NEO(TM) 2.0 deployment environment.
Sun Internet WorkShop and Solaris NEO 2.0 help customers reduce development costs by enabling them to create new software components which can be seamlessly integrated with existing applications and data.
Sun Internet WorkShop combines everything developers need for creating Internet or intranet-based applications for client/server systems. Included are tools for developing universal Java(TM) client and robust, scalable C server applications. Solaris NEO 2.0 deployment environment provides the software infrastructure necessary to distribute and manage client/server applications for private intranets or the public Internet.
Solaris NEO 2.0 deployment environment provides a critical benefit to today's Internet customers -- software interoperability. Solaris NEO 2.0 deployment environment uses the industry-standard CORBA 2.0 Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP) to link applications from multiple vendors CORBA environments.
"The shift towards Internet and network computing has dramatically increased our customers' need for an environment that enables software components to be distributed across a network," said Janpieter Scheerder, president, SunSoft, Inc. "With Solaris NEO 2.0 and Sun Internet WorkShop our customers can now create and deploy robust, scalable and highly interactive web-based applications that interoperate with other vendors' software."
"Solaris NEO is at the heart of our multichannel television distribution system and makes it easier to develop applications and manage and control the access rights of subscribers," said Tom Eller, digital program director, Titan Broadband Communications Corporation. "Solaris NEO and Sun Internet WorkShop provide us with the software infrastructure and development tools that we need to develop, deploy and manage the Digital Video PassPort system."
Sun Internet WorkShop is a world-class set of development tools for creating powerful networked object services, which automate many core functions that an application developer would otherwise need to write.
The Sun Internet WorkShop includes:
-- Java(TM) WorkShop(TM) software, written entirely in Java, offers an innovative web-based interface, enabling customers to easily develop Java clients for the web, on the web.
-- NEOworks(TM) software enables developers to encapsulate code built with Sun Visual WorkShop development tool for C and distribute it on the corporate network for maximum flexibility, scalability and reuse.
-- Visual WorkShop C is an award-winning Solaris development environment already used by enterprise developers to create robust server applications for mission-critical systems.
Solaris NEO is a highly flexible deployment environment, which lets customers scale their network to handle the increased information technology needs of their enterprise.
Solaris NEO 2.0 includes:
-- Joe(TM) 2.0 software, the critical link that directly connects Java applets running in a Web browser to enterprise applications on powerful corporate servers -- allowing customers to leverage legacy systems for Internet and intranet applications.
-- NEO(TM) Connectivity for Microsoft Windows desktops, which lets customers easily integrate their existing Microsoft Windows desktop systems with powerful Solaris NEO application servers.
-- Solstice(TM) NEO(TM) administration tools, a software set that manages networked environments from any location and provides dynamic load balancing for peak performance.
