AT&T Labs Approves ADTRAN FSU FRAD for Use with AT&T InterSpan Frame Relay Service

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 1997--ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading supplier of voice and data communications network access devices, announced today that AT&T's Developmental Relations Group has certified the ADTRAN FSU Frame Relay Access Device (FRAD) for compatibility with AT&T's InterSpan Frame Relay Service.
Tested in the AT&T Laboratories, the ADTRAN FSU has passed the Data Transfer and Interim Local Management Interface (LMI/Annex D) aspects of the AT&T InterSpan Frame Relay Technical Reference Tests. The product is being introduced at the ComNet Trade Show being held in Washington, D.C. this week. (ComNet Booth Number 242).

The FSU is a Frame Relay Access Device for transporting multiprotocol data over Frame Relay networks. The unit features two DTE interfaces for data terminal equipment and supports Frame Relay access rates up to 512 kbps. Support is provided for SNA, Bisync, and IP, as well as several other protocols. Available with an integral DSU/CSU, this unit, as well as the FSU 5622 ESP, can operate over standard point-to-point DDS lines in anticipation of Frame Relay availability. The product supports three formats of LMI, including LMI/ANNEX D, ANSI T1.617 ANNEX D and ITUQ.933 ANNEX A. Each unit features FLASH memory, which enables customers to download software for future enhancements.
