Extended Systems Announces Advantage Database Server for Windows NT

Business Wire, Feb 7, 1997

BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 7, 1997--

Now Advantage client/server applications run on the

Microsoft Windows NT platform

Extended Systems announced today the immediate availability of Advantage Database Server for Windows NT.

Advantage for Windows NT is a full NT service and offers both DOS and Windows users the ability to run Advantage-enabled applications on the popular Microsoft NT platform.

An upgrade program is in place to allow current Advantage NetWare users to transfer their applications to a Windows NT environment. Advantage Database Server for Windows NT is available today, February 7, 1997; pricing levels are the same as for the Advantage NLM.

"As Windows NT has become more and more established, our customers have requested the ability to use Advantage with NT," stated Advantage Product Manager, Pat Sheridan. "Not only will this product provide immediate solutions to our current customer base, but it will allow us to offer a cost-effective client/server alternative to an entirely new market segment."

Advantage Windows for NT will run on a Windows NT Workstation or Server and will provide the same low-cost, high-performance client/server functionality NetWare users have been enjoying with Advantage since 1993. Traditionally, developers needing to include client/server capabilities in their applications have found full SQL implementation time consuming and costly. Advantage offers a robust, high-performance, easy-to-deploy engine -- allowing developers to offer true client/server functionality at an affordable price.

Remote Internet Access for Advantage Users

Extended Systems also offers Internet-enabled database access to Advantage Windows NT and NetWare users. Advantage Internet Server allows remote users to simply dial in to any Internet Service Provider such as CompuServe to access their Advantage database. Advantage Internet Server also uses high-level encryption and user authentication to provide security for passing data over the Internet.

Developers can use Advantage Internet Server with their current Advantage application without writing their existing code. With the new Advantage Internet Server, developers can instantly provide easy, seamless and high-performance Internet data access for their users without having to build an HTML version of their software. At a fraction of the cost of a WAN, the Internet can truly perform as a cost-effective alternative for remote users needing WAN capabilities. Advantage Internet Server's unique architecture provides instant high-performance Internet connectivity with minimal development effort.
