Fujitsu Provides High-Resolution, Color Scanning For Document Imaging, Internet and Desktop Graphics Environments Adobe Acrobat 3.0 Software Included With Each ScanPartner 600C

Business Wire, Jan 13, 1997

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 1997--Fujitsu Computer Products of America today announced a high-resolution color desktop scanner especially designed for scanning images to the Internet, and document imaging and desktop graphics applications.

The ScanPartner 600C is optimized for full color Web publishing with integrated software and the ability to handle documents up to 50 pages. It enables a broad range of customers to easily and cost-effectively convert paper-based information into high-resolution, color electronic content for on-line access.

Each ScanPartner 600C comes with Adobe Acrobat 3.0 software, providing customers with one of the fastest and easiest solutions for getting paper documents onto the World Wide Web, corporate intranets and CD-ROM. The combination allows customers to easily scan paper documents into fully searchable, Web-ready electronic documents that maintain the exact formatting of the original. In the past, high-quality, color imaging of this nature was typically performed by a high-priced scanner, but the explosive growth of the Internet/intranet and on-line publishing has created a large demand for high-quality color scanning at a low price.

"The World Wide Web has dramatically increased access to information, but current technology has made loading content time consuming and costly," said Rita Marcojohn, vice president of Fujitsu Computer Products, imaging products group. "The ScanPartner 600C and Adobe Acrobat solution will help users get a broad range of documents on-line, and usher in a new era of graphically and informationally rich content that will make the World Wide Web and corporate intranets more useful."

"Acrobat software and the ScanPartner 600C can help customers extend the World Wide Web to make a wider variety of information more easily accessible, including paper-based documents," said John Kunze, vice president and general manager of Adobe Systems' internet products division. "We look forward to working with Fujitsu to provide scaleable scan-to-the-Web solutions that will address both desktop and high-volume corporate customers."

ScanPartner 600C Features

The ScanPartner 600C provides single-pass 24-bit color, grayscale and bitonal scanning supported through the built-in 50-page automatic document feeder. The advanced paper-handling capabilities of the ScanPartner 600C dramatically improves individual and workgroup productivity by eliminating the tedious document feeding associated with common flatbed scanning.

The new ScanPartner 600C features 15 page-per-minute (ppm) throughput, SCSI-interface, and TWAIN and ISIS driver support. Also included is the Fujitsu ScanRight Image Kit, an enhancement package that includes support software and an image-capture utility. In addition, Fujitsu provides device drivers which support Adobe PDF output allowing users to post documents and images on Internet/intranet sites faster and improve graphic quality of documents on the World Wide Web.

No Excuses, Two-Business Day Replacement

Fujitsu stands behind its imaging scanner products with the No Excuses warranty program designed to enhance the cost-effectiveness and reliability of the color scanner. No Excuses provides purchasers of the ScanPartner 600C scanner with a replacement scanner in two-business days if they experience problems with their scanner during the first year of operation.

Pricing and Availability

The Fujitsu ScanPartner 600C will be available in January with a list price of $1995, including the SCSI adapter, cables, Adobe Acrobat and the ScanRight Image Kit.

About Adobe Acrobat Software

Adobe Acrobat 3.0 software for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX platforms provides customers with one of the fastest and easiest solutions for creating documents that are ready for distribution on the World Wide Web, corporate intranets and CD-ROM. With Acrobat 3.0, customers can make practically any document ready for distribution on the Internet through a process as simple and familiar as printing.

Both paper documents and those created with standard desktop authoring tools, such as word processors, presentation packages and page layout tools, can be turned into Portable Document Format (PDF) files with Acrobat 3.0 software and posted immediately onto the Web. As a result, customers can quickly distribute information through external Web sites or corporate intranets without learning new tools or spending additional time and resources reauthoring documents into other formats. -0-
