Litton agrees to acquire SAI Technology

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 16, 1997--Litton Industries Inc. Thursday announced that it has agreed to purchase SAI Technology (SAIT), a division of Science Applications International Corp.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
With headquarters in La Jolla, Calif., SAIT is the leading provider of customized and ruggedized mobile computing equipment and systems for military and commercial applications worldwide. The company specializes in providing and integrating commercial off-the-shelf systems. It also has a growing share of the military and commercial display markets. The business has estimated sales for the fiscal year ended Feb. 1, 1997, of approximately $90 million.
The transaction, which is subject to execution of a definitive purchase agreement, is expected to close by the end of February 1997.
John M. Leonis, Litton's chairman and chief executive officer, said, "Litton is the U.S. Army's standard supplier of handheld computers for soldiers in the field, which are a key component in achieving battlefield digitization.
"The combination of Litton's existing strong capabilities and SAIT's complementary products and systems will enable Litton to provide a complete suite of hardware to our military customers. The acquisition also will extend our growth opportunities in federal and commercial markets."
Litton is a leader in worldwide technology markets for advanced electronic and defense systems, and a major designer and builder of surface combat ships for the U.S. Navy and allied nations.
