Former Indiana Governor Joins Board of Chartwell Investments

Business Wire, Jan 16, 1997

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 16, 1997--Chartwell Investments announced today that The Honorable Evan Bayh, the former two term Governor of Indiana, has joined their Board of Senior Advisors.

Former Governor Bayh, 41, was barred by law from succeeding himself last November. During his eight years as Governor, his Administration created 350,000 new jobs in Indiana, slashed welfare rolls by 30 percent, and left his successor with a $1.67 billion budget surplus. This past summer, he gave the keynote address at the Democratic Party Convention, and recently joined the Indianapolis law firm of Baker & Daniels as a partner.

"We are honored that Governor Bayh, with his outstanding record of public service, has agreed to become a Senior Advisor to Chartwell Investments," said Chartwell's President Todd Berman. "His commitment, integrity and vision will be invaluable to Chartwell in the years ahead."

Chartwell Investments, a privately-held investment firm, owns a group of companies with over $1 billion in sales. Its businesses include airport parking lots, truck stops, heating oil distribution and retail petroleum outlets and convenience stores. The firm's other Senior Advisors include Robert V. Lindsay, the former President of J.P. Morgan & Co. Incorporated and William I. Spencer, the former President and Chief Administrative Officer of Citicorp.
