Business Wire, Jan 16, 1997

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 16, 1997--Just over a year ago, UK-based, New Covent Garden Soup Company launched its premium range of delicious refrigerated soups on to the Greater Bay Area market.

The company is creating a new niche in the U.S. market place by offering a ready-to-eat fresh soup using all natural ingredients with a home-made taste and texture. Since the product's launch, the company is reporting tremendous success with the soup flying off the shelves of over 60 local independent grocery stores and several Northern Californian chains.

Due to the instant success of their ready-to-eat fresh soups, New Covent Garden Soup Company introduced the "Soup of the Month" to its current product line. This month's release, Wild Mushroom, combines the full-bodied flavor of shitakke, portobello, and white mushrooms to create a smooth creamy blend rich with flavor.

Consumers will be able to find New Covent Garden's "Soup of the Month" along with the six other recipes already available; Lentil with Winter Vegetables, Carrot & Coriander, Spinach with Nutmeg, Sicilian Tomato, Tuscan Bean, and Asparagus at the 1997 NASFT International Fancy Food and Confection Show at the Moscone Center, January 19-21 at Booth No. 4516.

In the UK, New Covent Garden Soups are served as a delicious light meal or as a starter. They are considered by many a low-fat choice, as they contain approximately 4 to 5 grams of fat per serving. Soups can be found in the refrigerated section of the market next to the fresh pastas at many Bay Area retail outlets such as Mollie Stone's, Lunardi's, Draeger's, Cala Foods, Bell Markets, Whole Foods, Real Foods, Andronico's and most recently Wild Oats Markets. They are packaged in milk-type cartons containing 20 Fluid ounces, enough for 2-3 servings. Prices range from $2.99 to $3.49.
