Kohl returns to WSG&R following three years of setting tax policy at the U.S. Treasury Department.
At the Treasury, Kohl served as the deputy assistant secretary for Tax Policy, a senior treasury official with major responsibility for formulating tax legislation and regulations and implementing tax policy. From 1994 to 1996, he was tax legislative counsel in the Treasury Department.
Prior to joining the government, Kohl had been with WSG&R in its Tax Department for nine years, five of those as partner. He was also an executive committee member with the firm from 1992 to 1993.
"Glen's return to the firm is a great boost to achieving our strategic goals as a national law firm serving emerging growth companies," said Larry Sonsini, WSG&R chairman. "Glen's expertise, energy and client skills are exceptional. We look forward to the continued growth of our Tax Department under his leadership," Sonsini added.
Kohl succeeds Don Bradley, former chairman of WSG&R's Tax Department, who recently became the firm's general counsel and who will also continue with his responsibilities as a partner in the Tax Department.
In addition to his tenure with WSG&R, Kohl was a lecturer at the Stanford Law School from 1990 to 1993. He earned an LL.M (Taxation) from the New York University School of Law (1983), where he graduated first in his class and was co-recipient of the Harry J. Rudick Memorial Award. He also served as acting assistant professor at the New York University School of Law, 1983 to 1984.
Kohl earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1981 and was a semifinalist in the Harlan Fiske Stone (Moot Court) Competition. He received the B.S. summa cum laude and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Tufts University in 1978.
