New Lotus cc:Mail Release to Include the Fabrik Service; Fabrik Connect to Ship in the Box with the Next Release of Lotus cc:Mail

Business Wire, Jan 27, 1997

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 1997--Today at Lotusphere '97, Fabrik Communications, Inc., a San Francisco-based Internet e-mail service provider, announced a relationship with Lotus Development Corp. that includes the bundling of Fabrik Connect with the next major release of Lotus cc:Mail.

The Fabrik Connect service extends cc:Mail-based e-mail systems, providing wide area network connectivity to the Internet. Fabrik is ranked among the top 10 Public E-Mail Services by EMMS (Electronic Mail & Messaging Systems).

Like cc:Mail, Fabrik Connect is easy to install and use. With the pre-packaged installation script, cc:Mail administrators will be able to connect their existing or new post offices to Fabrik in fewer than 30 minutes. There is no capital investment, nor additional hardware or software required.

With Fabrik Connect, cc:Mail users receive a personal Internet address with a custom company domain name. Users simply send and receive Internet e-mail from the same interface they are familiar with using for cc:Mail. For this reason, there is no additional training required.

Business Partners Strengthen Relationship

Since Fabrik's founding in 1994, the company has been a Lotus Business Partner. Lotus cc:Mail was Fabrik's first supported service platform.

"Combined with Fabrik Connect, cc:Mail becomes a powerful tool for external as well as internal communications," said Nick Ordon, vice president and general manager for the cc:Mail division of Lotus Development Corp. "We believe that, together, Lotus and Fabrik offer network administrators and e-mail users the most cost-effective and easiest-to-use messaging solution available."

"This integration will enable more cc:Mail customers to take advantage of Fabrik Connect to extend their LAN e-mail systems to the Internet," said Christopher Logan, CEO of Fabrik Communications, Inc. "Fabrik Connect provides seamless Internet integration, making cc:Mail an even more powerful business communication tool."

Pricing and Availability

Fabrik Connect will be available in the box with the next major U.S. release of Lotus cc:Mail. In the U.S., the Connect service costs $60 per month plus 20 cents per outbound message. There are nominal additional charges for file attachments, priority messages and X.400 messages. Most inbound messages (up to 100kb in size) are delivered free. All outbound connectivity access is toll free. Fabrik also offers free customer support.
