Business Wire, Jan 7, 1997

TACOMA, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 1997--Donald G. Meyer, deputy executive director of the Port of Tacoma since 1992, was named interim executive director by the Port Commission on Jan. 2.

Meyer will serve as interim executive director until a new executive director is selected by the commission.

The Port Commission is currently evaluating proposals submitted by executive search firms and will select a firm within the next few weeks. Once a firm is selected, a new executive director is expected to be named in 90-120 days.

Prior to beginning his tenure as deputy executive director, Meyer served as the port's senior director of finance and administration from 1985-1989 and as deputy director of development and finance from 1989-1992. Before joining the port, Meyer worked in the residential construction industry and served in a variety of finance-related positions within the Washington State Legislature, the Governor's Budget Office and The Evergreen State College.

"My primary job as interim executive director is to work closely with other senior staff members at the port to ensure that our customers continue to receive the high level of service and support they're accustomed to," Meyer said.

"I'll also provide support to the port commissioners as they work to select a new executive director and a new commissioner to fill the seat that will be vacant once Commissioner Pat O'Malley resigns to serve on the Pierce County Council."

"Don will help guide the port through this period of transition and provide the port's customers and the commission with the support they need," said Port Commission President Jack Fabulich.

A native of South Dakota, Meyer is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and has a master's degree in business administration from the University of South Dakota.
