Gateway 2000, Inc. today announced the addition of Intel's Pentium processor with MMX technology to their consumer desktop line. A leader in bringing new technology to market quickly, Gateway now offers 166MHz and 200MHz Pentium processors with MMX technology in addition to their full line of Pentium and Pentium Pro processors on their desktop platforms.
Gateway's direct business model means quick availability for consumers wanting to start the New Year with the Pentium processor with MMX technology. "We feel the MMX-based systems are the platform of choice for most users, especially those whose primary applications are multimedia based. The performance gains are clear," said Dave Berger, director of the America's product marketing at Gateway 2000.
Gateway will offer a number of configurations with Intel's Pentium processor with MMX technology. One example is the P5-200FPC featuring the 200MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 32MB of SDRAM DIMM, a 2.5GB hard drive, 12X CD-ROM drive, Telepath 33.6(a) fax/modem for Windows with speakerphone, 3D graphics accelerator with 2MB SGRAM and Gateway's exclusive CrystalScan(R) 700 monitor (15.9" viewable screen) for $2,469. The CrystalScan 700 features Toshiba's new Microfilter(TM) technology which increases brightness by 30% over traditional shadow mask monitors.
Other desktop systems using the Pentium processor with MMX technology include the P5-200 Professional at $2,449, the P5-166 Professional at $2,199 and the P5-166FPC for $2,149.
