SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1997--
MMX processor performance boost expands
``GOO'' visual experience
MetaTools Inc. (NASDAQ:MTLS) Wednesday announced that it has developed a new Intel Pentium processor with MMX technology- compatible version of the award-winning, best-selling Kai's Power GOO software.
``GOO,'' the internationally acclaimed creative entertainment software package that lets consumers smudge, smear and fuse their pictures on PCs, is now available as an OEM-licensed product for manufacturers that provide MMX-based systems.
The Intel Pentium processor with MMX technology enhances performance and visual quality of Kai's Power GOO, a media-rich graphics software program. For example, the MMX-enhanced version of Kai's Power GOO runs the animation ``GOOvie'' sequences with higher visual quality and smoother animation than previous processors.
``The Pentium MMX-enhanced processor is an exciting and timely development for the emerging visual-computing industry,'' said John Wilczak, co-founder and chief executive officer of MetaTools.
``Professional and consumer buyers of Kai's Power GOO and other MetaTools creative entertainment software will benefit from the new standards in visual clarity and speed that Intel provides with Pentium processor MMX technology.''
MMX technology is a major enhancement that is designed to improve the ability for PCs to deliver media-rich applications with improved capability. Intel recognized several years ago that future communications, games and ``edutainment'' applications featuring video, 3-D graphics, animation and audio would demand ever-increasing levels of performance.
Intel engineers identified 57 key instructions -- MMX technology -- that would speed up certain compute-intensive loops predominant in media-rich and communications applications and integrated them into the microprocessor.
MetaTools, the visual-computing software company, designs, develops, publishes, markets and supports software tools for creating, editing and manipulating computer-graphic images, digital art and Internet/on-line content for Windows, Macintosh and other computing systems.
Working with distributors in North America, Europe and Asia, MetaTools professional and consumer software is available in more than 50 countries.
