Acxiom Acquires National List Protection System, Inc.; Acquisition of Nationwide Mailing List Surveillance Service Rounds Out Acxiom's Suite of Services for "The Mailer"
Business Wire, July 1, 1997
CONWAY, Ark.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1997--Acxiom(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ACXM) announced today that it has acquired the assets of National List Protection System, Inc., (NLPS) for $600,000.
NLPS is one of the U.S. market leaders in the mailing list surveillance industry. Headquartered in Florham Park, New Jersey, NLPS provides list surveillance and monitoring services to business-to-business and consumer list owners and mailers.
Acxiom provides a wide spectrum of data products, data integration services, mailing list services, as well as data warehousing and decision support services to major firms in the United States and United Kingdom.
Stephen H. Brighton, Group Leader of Acxiom/Direct Media, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Acxiom, stated, "Acxiom is very enthusiastic about the acquisition of NLPS. The combination of Acxiom's data and sales and marketing capabilities with NLPS monitoring services will provide significant new advantages for our customers. The acquisition of NLPS fits perfectly within our strategy to be the leader in delivering complete data solutions to meet the information needs of our customers. For over 25 years mailers have relied on NLPS for quality and accurate monitoring. NLPS enables us to establish new markets for Acxiom data products through a proven service."
Kathy Capell, NLPS General Manager, added, "We are enormously excited about the many benefits we will now be able to share as part of the Acxiom family. Their marketing capabilities will give us greater opportunities and resources for growth."
NLPS provides mailing customers with selected addresses from a list of 170 available "decoy" monitors in areas around the United States. A customer elects to "SALT" their lists whenever they do a mailing. These individuals date the mail upon receipt and return it to NLPS.
The mail from all the various locations is processed in NLPS' Florham Park offices. The client can select from two service plans -- they may have all the mail pieces returned to them for their own internal analysis, or they may elect to have reports generated by NLPS.
Benefits to the mailing customer are:
-- Reliable and timely reports
-- Proof of mailing
-- Proof of delivery
-- Proof of misuse
-- Client confidentiality assured
Acxiom/Direct Media plans to immediately offer NLPS services. According to Brighton, "NLPS will provide synergistic mail monitoring services to our clients and fit very well with the growing suite of services provided by Acxiom/Direct Media. We plan to offer and recommend the service in our proposals to new customers."
NLPS personnel will remain active in the operations of the business. Brighton also commented, "It's business as usual at NLPS and Acxiom. Furthermore, Acxiom remains committed to providing support and technology to other customers in the list industry and will continue to make investments in list industry solutions as appropriate."
In addition to NLPS, Acxiom's other recent acquisitions include:
-- Direct Media/DMI, Inc., an Acxiom customer since 1976, is the
one of the world's largest list management companies and
one of the largest list brokers as well. Its acquisition in
April 1996 has given Acxiom access to the provider of more
consumer and business data than any other company in
the United States.
-- DataQuick Information Systems, Inc., which prior to its
acquisition in August 1995 was largely a West Coast
provider of on-line property data. It has since expanded
its database to include nearly 80 percent of the
metropolitan areas in the United States.
-- London-based Generator Datamarketing, Ltd., acquired
in July 1995, has given Acxiom access to an excellent source
of business data in the United Kingdom.
-- Pro CD, Inc., purchased in April 1996, markets information
to over 15 million companies and home-based businesses
in the United States today. This award-winning provider of
telephone and mapping data on CD-ROM has 350,000 registered
users, 60 percent of which are small businesses.
