Cirrus Logic chips chosen by Jaton Corp. for new 56K modem And 3D audio board; FastPath modem and CrystalClear audio platforms to provide high-speed Internet access and 3D audio on a single board

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 15, 1997--Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) today announced that Jaton Corp., the world's largest video and multimedia PC card supplier, has selected both Cirrus Logic's FastPath(TM) 56K(1) modem chipset (CL-MD565X) and CrystalClear(TM) single-chip ISA audio subsystem (CS4237B) for its new Explorer(TM) 56 Plus, internal fax/modem/3D audio board.

Jaton's innovative Explorer 56 Plus uses the Cirrus Logic FastPath and CrystalClear platforms to deliver both the fastest Internet access over common phone lines and immersive 3D audio on a single ISA Plug-n-Play board.

In addition, Jaton also announced today the Explorer 56, a standalone 56K internal fax/modem, as well as the Explorer Plus, a 33.6Kbps modem and 3D audio board, which are also based on Cirrus Logic modem and audio chip solutions.

The CL-MD565X offer Internet access at up to 56K by taking full advantage of existing infrastructures currently being used by telephone companies, Online Services and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) adopting the x2 protocol. In fact, more than 400 of the world's largest ISPs and Online Services, such as America Online (AOL), IBM Global, Compuserve, Prodigy and ANS Communications, have announced support for the x2 protocol.

The CS4237B delivers Sound Retrieval System (SRS) technology from SRS Labs Inc. for full dynamic control of immersive 3D audio. This audio subsystem, supported by an extensive suite of Cirrus Logic software, provides a complete audio solution that fully supports Microsoft's(R) DirectSound(TM) API allowing end-users to play the new wave of high-performance Windows games.

Pricing and Availability

The Explorer 56 Plus internal fax/modem/3D audio board will be available in August 1997 at a suggested retail price of $159.00. The Explorer 56 internal fax/modem board is available now at a suggested retail price of $129.00. The Explorer Plus 33.6 internal fax/modem/3D audio board is available now at a suggested retail price of $99.00. The Explorer 56 and Explorer 56 Plus include the 3-D software tool TriSpective(TM) and an audio headset with microphone valued at $200.00.
